Can A Sista Succeed without sisterhood

Hi Peeps! Can a sista succeed without the support of her fellow sista? Meaning not only her sorors, but her fellow black sista?

I guess I'm not understanding what your question is asking....can a black woman succeed without the support of other black women? Is that your question? If it is, I think you need to qualify it a little more...can a black woman succeed in business without support of other black women? Succeed in raising a family? etc?

In my opinion, black women are the strongest women...we can take on and succeed in anything we put our minds to. I think we all lean on someone to help us at sometime in our lives, so I guess my ultimate answer is: no, I don't think anyone (black, white, green) can succeed without someone's (black, white, green) help. You're never in this world completely alone...If you believe in a higher power (God, Allah, whatever) then you're always going to have someone supporting you.

All I was saying was......sisters are not united like they use to be. Everyone is out for themselves! But I wanted to know what you as a sorority who lives by sisterhood, think. I have learned alot through sisterhood "not affiliated with AKA.....yet" I believe that sisterhood is very important in success because who can give you that support except the one who can relate to you the most.....your sista. And AKA2D'91, I apologize for giving you the wrong assumption of my purpose of this question. So lighten up and

I am currently in an industry that has very few women, and almost no Black people. But, it's where I want to be. And, if going where I must go means traveling to a place where there are no "sistas", then I guess sisterhood is unnecessary.

Ok for everyone that is upset with my thread, I apologize. I guess I wasn't too clear. So lets start off on a better foot. Oh I am one of five black women in engineering and when I am having hard times I go to my girls for that support. Yes I can succeed without the support of my sistas, but it helps. So lets stop with

I think that if you're fortunate enough to have "sistas" working with you, their support is an added benefit! Who better to complain too, joke with, hang out with, etc? I don't think that it's neccessayr to be successful but I do think its a better to have than not to have.

As another sista in the engineering field, it really depends on where you are whether or not you have support from other sistsas. In my company, there are numbers of sista engineers (including my own mother!) and many sorors in that large group. Some of my most staunch supporters are sistas but I could not have positioned myself as well without the support of my boss (white female) and others in my area (white males, hispanic males). To answer your question, Yes you can succeed but you may not be happy without that natural connection.
