Engagement Present

My boyfriend's younger sister just got engaged and I want to send them a little something on behalf of both of us...any ideas?

I was thinking maybe a nice bottle of wine/champagne, subscription to a bridal magazine, B&N gift card to get a wedding planner - what do y'all think?

I like the idea of a bottle of champagne and some wedding magazines.

I usually bring the couple a nice bottle of wine or champagne. If the couple doesn't already live together, I sometimes get them a gift card to Bed Bath & Beyond. I've never thought to give a subscription to a bridal magazine. Your gift seems like a good idea.

I love the bridal mag idea. Someone did that for me & I loved it! We have a bottle of champagne in the fridge still that was an engagement gift - waiting for another special time to use it. Gift card sounds good too

What a great future sister in law you are!

On the wine/champagne idea, one cool thing to do is to make sure the year on the bottle is the year the couple met and point it out in the card. I think it shows a little more thought into the gift. This might not work if they just met within the last year for an engagement gift, but in that case it is an idea for a nice 1-year anniversary gift!

All of your ideas are great! I would also suggest a picture frame engraved with their engagement date.

Another thing I've done (besides the things listed in other posts), is give one of those blank cookbooks. It has pages to put recipies in, a little grocery list note pade, magnets, etc. Anyhow, I start one out by putting some of my favorite recipies (that I know they will like) in there. I always like it because it gives the bride-to-be some "real" food to know how to cook as opposed to the sometimes difficult (but delicious!) things in the fancy cookbooks we all end up registering for (or getting either way.)

A friend of mine got me a subscription to Modern Bride after we got engaged and I really appreciated it. We also got our toasting flutes and champagne from a family friend which was also a nice gift!

My MOH did this for me at a shower. She had sent pages to everyone attending, and she put them in the looseleaf cookbook for me as a gift from everyone (along with more blank pages). Most of my friends cook very well, and contributed a really good recipe. But one - YIKES! Her family owned a restaurant, so she had never really learned to cook. On her page, she wrote: "Reservations", then added a long list of takeout places. To this day, I'll say, "we're having Meg's Speciality for dinner"!

On a more serious note, I like the idea of a planner that entails more than the wedding (place settings, etc). I really put mine to good use!

I ended up sending her four bridal magazines and a gift certificate to get a wedding planner - she really liked it! Thanks for all the good ideas, everyone!

:)

When I got engaged I really enjoyed getting heartfelt cards. I know it's small, but I love them, and I still have them actually.

When my roommate from college had her shower, her grandmother gave her a huge box filled with all of her recipes on large index cards. She had been putting one together for each of her granddaughters. I thought it was the sweetest thing ever!

Love it! Maybe if you have a picture you could put it in the frame, too. OR a collage of different pictures/ etc.
