I understand it from that perspective, but psychologically there can be some major expectations if you're a Junior, etc. That said, in my family our middle names are family names, mine for my grandfather, my sister for my grandmother, my brother for my other grandfather and my youngest brother for my dad. But (except for my Nonna pressuring us to name a great-grandkid after her) there's not that expecation in my family and we don't duplicate names. So I'm speaking from my experience.
I like her names in general, and Harry naming his kids Lily, James, and Albus Severus isn't the same as twin naming his son after his dead brother. It sets off warning bells.

I just finished the book on Saturday.
Great ending to the entire saga.
Loved the epilouge.

True, there certainly can be, but there doesn't mean that there have to be. In my experience (my brother is a "IV"), that kind of imposition of expectations is the exception, not the rule -- and if those expectations are in fact there, they are likely to be there regardless of what the kid gets named.

I see your point, but like I said, it seems very normal to me. I would expect other family members to refrain from naming a kid Fred because they would think it's George's prerogative to use that name. And I would expect George to name his son Fred -- and I trust George not to expect little Fred to be brother Fred reincarnated.
The real question is -- who did George marry?

Perhaps it's just "too soon" for me. I just lost Fred and in my mind George did too. 5 years later may be different. It's also part of what she said about George never quite getting over it... *shrug* just my POV.
I do wonder who he married, both twins dated during school but there's no mention of girls after their grand exit in OotP.

I don't think you ever get over someone you love that much. I think that massive void in your heart slowly fills with good memories. No one is really gone until they are forgotten. I think it would be an honour for George's son to take the name of his late uncle. Also I hope George married Angelina. I'm sure Fred wouldn't mind! George is a saint now

Okay, last post...for now.
I was crying earlier over Fred. Now I'm crying because I'm laughing so hard. YOU HAVE TO SEE THIS INTERVIEW!

Look, I love American tv when it's shows like LOST, Veronica Mars and Grey's. But your talk shows cannot hold a match to Brits. Bless you Jonathon Ross, between you, Graham Norton and Craig Ferguson I will never lose faith in telly ever. (Yes I know Craig Ferguson is over here now!)

I'm fully aware--when's the last time there was a book written about him? Especially a fiction book, aimed toward the approximate age range of HP fans, just 2 months before the last book came out? That was my point.
Oooh, she answered my question! I'm so pleased. I'm sad that George was never the same again, but that's to be expected I guess. ETA: I hope George married Angelina, too. But that's too much of a Harry/Cho/Cedric thing, I don't think JKR would go that way ago.

Random thought about HP7
1. I knew Snape was good since I read my first HP book (#5). I also knew he had a thing for Lily. I was touched when he told HP to look at his eyes before he died of the snake bite, as if he wanted the memory of Lily's eyes to be the last thing he saw.
2. I was pleasantly surprised with my second favorite character, Neville!
3. I was not shocked by the deaths of: Fred, Dobby, Lupin, and Tonks. Few people spoiled it for me. So I knew it was coming.
4. The saddest death was Colin Creevey, I thought. He always looked up to HP and chose to fight even though he wasnt allowed. That was the bravest death to me.
5. The middle section of the book sucked. I loved the beginning up to the wedding and the ending (minus the very last chapter). The last chapter doesnt even sound like she wrote it. To be honest, the whole thing seemed rushed.
6. I am going to re-read the whole thing again after finals because I was speed reading since I was sick of having to hear about spoilers.

I knew I had read it too fast! I don't even remember Colin dying!

I don't think it was written like it was rushed; I think I (like many other HP fans) was so eager to find out what happened that I read it too fast. I think JKR did a brilliant job.

I think it was slightly rushed, but that's how I feel about all of her books. Everything always seems to happen in the last 100 pages. How do you find 1 horcrux in months and then off 4 of them in one day? But that's how life is, I guess--when you're screaming for things to speed up, in the blink of an eye you're just barely keeping up. I'm glad the author realizes that and, as uncomfortable as it is to feel that pull and push of time, she didn't just measure things out evenly for us. That wouldn't reflect life and that's the whole point, isn't it? To show that, magic aside, we're all human and this is what life is like when you're fighting for good?

Since I have been on GC a while, I do recall this thread where we touched upon the theme of " Are there any good Slytherins?" in this thread here

That guy who was head of Slytherin was on the right side--what was his name, the professor who was fighting in the green robe, was overweight, and liked crystallized pineapple?
ETA: oh yeah, Horace Slughorn.
