Expensive lotion

I'm assuming girls will have the answer to this. Do you usually buy expensive lotion and is it worth it? Like that Kiehls stuff. I remember watching a 20-20 episode many years ago that said that Vaseline lotion worked just as well if not better than the expensive stuff.

Any opinions?
Also, do you stick to your lotion once you've bought it or do you buy a bunch of different ones?

I know - it's completely random and off the wall but please answer.

Haha, I love random.

I would tend to agree that inexpensive lotion works just as well as expensive lotion. The only reason I would ever spend big money on lotion would be if it were scented like my perfume, because sometimes scented lotions can really clash with perfumes. But usually I will just use something that smells sort of neutral, like Nivea or Jergens. I like to switch it up a lot, and I'll buy different lotions for different "moods" (I'm pretty high-maintenance product-wise); i.e. the hair minimizing kind and the "hint of self-tanner" kind. Two of my favorites are the Skintimate after-shave lotion (which is actually more like a gel and still requires an additional moisturizer but it's GREAT if you have problems with razor burn which I do) and Palmer's Skin-Tightening lotion for after pregnancy and/or weight loss (I have an 8-month-old). Hope this helps?

I'm obsessed with Vaseline intensive care. It's the best, its cheap and you can use it in the winter and the summer. If you want to add scent to it, you can put a drop of essential oil in it. I have lotions made from perfumes... and honestly... they suck in terms of how lotions go but I guess that really isn't the point.
I like aveeno too and i think Jergan's has this natural kind, I like the body cream from B & B too though.

in terms of on my face though, I LOVE neutrogena's SPF 15 oil free moisturizer... i like the tinted kind, but its getting harder to find it with all the selftanner types out there....

I'm not sure what is meant by "expensive lotion". To me, bath & body works is expensive, but I'm willing to pay the exta for the body cream. (I <3 cotton blossom!) I used to use cheap lotion, but it always made my legs really sticky and uncomfortable--which was especially bad because I shower at night. I find that the B&B body cream really absorbs into my skin and doesn't just hang out on the top layer.

And fyi-B&B was having a huge sale this weekend! I got a $10.50 thing of body cream for $3!!!!!!!!!!

All lotions are not created equal, but the determining factor isn't price, it's ingredients. Any Vaseline product is a bunch of pore clogging crap because it's made out of petrolatum, the same stuff gasoline is made out of. Most cheapo lotions have petrolatum/petroleum in them.

You'll want something that doesn't have petroleum or mineral oil in it, both coat the skin, but don't actually moisturize. For a drugstore type brand check out Aveeno, or stop by Whole Foods and pick up any J/A/S/O/N/S products or Kiss my Face. I've never used Kiehl's lotion, but I use their face wash and won't use anything else on my face. Hmmm might need to look into their lotions as well.

I thought this was going to be a "put the lotion in the basket" type thread.

Really cheap lotion (like dollar store stuff) is disgusting and watery, but other than that I think it's really pretty much all the same. BBW & Vicky's Secret stuff might say $9 on the bottle, but they've got so many sales that I don't think you ever need to actually pay that.

Oh, and I use a bunch of different ones, not the same one all the time, depending on what cologne I wear.

I find that I break out if I use cheaper lotion but that's just my skin. Everyone is different. I use Clinique's Dramatically Different Lotion. I like it because it's not too thick but also not too watery. Plus it doesn't clog my pores.

I break out on my legs with cheap lotion.

I've also noticed that my skin doesn't hold fragrence very well....I can wash with scented soap/bodywash or use lotion and I can't smell it. Except when it's some nasty smelling stuff. Plumeria smells horrible on me. When you're trying new lotion, get a sample and actually put it on your skin, because everyone's skin reacts differently.

I kept hearing ala Silence of the Lambs "It rubs the lotion on the skin, or else its get the hose again"

I'm a huge fan of tinted lotion for my legs, but for generic use I've had decent luck with Dove, Olay, Aveeno, etc. from my local RiteAid (CVS other places). They are really great about returns, so if it doesn't work for you, no problem. BBW is also good with returns and exchanges. Benefit also has a great line of face and body skin care.

here here. if it's more than $5-6/bottle, its staying on the shelf. i'll only buy B&BW/VS/Body Shop if it smells really good or if i get a gift card there. it's just out of the way for me - if im in a mall, i have no compelling reason to go in any of these stores.

(then again, Satsumi from Body Shop is AMAZING!)

LOL at "put the lotion in the basket."
seriously. watery lotion gives me the creeps and makes me kinda itchy.

I have all different types of lotion around... Bath and Body works stuff, Jergens shave minimizing, St. Ives, I actually think Aveeno works the best for me... but I like having one that smells good around too, and the shave minimizing one by Jergens works really well. I just usually buy whatever's on sale at Target,
Sometimes I get a gift of some good smelling lotion from some fancy store, and I like it, but it doesn't necessarily work any better.

With my thyroid condition, dry skin became a real problem. I love Gold Bond Ultimate Lotion for Extremely Dry Skin. I also use plain ol' Vaseline on my knees and elbows overnight. Bath and Body Works "Look Ma, New Hands" is also good. HTH

Simply.....

Bert's Bees.

It is the best *for* me that I have ever found. I appreciate its 100% natural (non-petrol) vegetable/plant base. The foot cream is a divine gift and the almond handle lotion is my main choice.

It depends on the type of lotion...

For the face (day) I like Oil of Olay Complete w/SPF 15.

For the face (night) I like a high quality thicker one like Origins Nite-a-Mins moisturizer, or Khiel's Lycopene Moisturizing Cream.

For the body I like good ol' Lubriderm.

For the hands, I really love Neutrogena Norwegian Formula (the best for cracked, sore skin in winter), and L'Occitane Shea Butter Hand Cream (LOVE the smell of it).

I won't buy a product I can't afford long-term, so I would never buy something like Creme de La Mer.
