Doing away with NPHC orgs is not going to fix our communities and the problems we're facing as a culture. Another thing that annoys me when I read these type of articles is that they just ignore the countless amount of work that's being done at the graduate level. It's true that undergrad membership is plentiful but so is graduate membership these days. These days alumni chapters are getting bigger and bigger and everyone knows that with maturity comes more focus and dedication to what you're trying to achieve. When the problems in the Black community cease to exist, then we can talk about our relevance but until then, we are just as relevant today as we were yesterday.
YOU KNOW!!!

Well, I think that we all can do it 2 ways: A Top Down edict that this is the law, or "grassroots efforts" for local chapters.

I like a combination of both. It makes it pluralistic for most people.

I do miss a collective community service activity in ORDER to become a member of an organization... Without it, what are really here for?

I know in my community, boy is there a lot of community service that must be done and my Sorority cannot and will not do it all... But, I know in other cities, only 1 or 2 NPHC graduate affiliates run the show and represent.

At any rate, it sounds like the person who wrote has not been active that long or not is graduate chapter long enough.

Yes we do.

This thread is about us proving that D9 stereotyping is just jokes.

As to your first point, Chaos you are a mess Your other point is a good one, are we feeding them or did we indeed start them? I believe that we may have started negative stereotypes about each other as a form of competition. Hence some of the chants. Oooh yeah, the eternals. It seems that every org created after AKA is considered rejects of each other. Its still so ridiculous though. Last point well taken. I still believe that we should move into a more positive direction of breaking down these negative stereotypes. The negative stereotypes would have people believing that if they are not a certain color, weight or sexual orientation then they would not be accepted as a XYZ. This thread started because of the many of us who have heard "you look like a XYZ or you don't look like a XYZ, and the question that was asked is where did this come from and how to move beyond them. It is these stereotypes that are dividing us in the D9, imo. We should be more focused on unifying because our main purpose is to uplift and empower the black community. There is strength in numbers. However, if we are putting more energy into feeding the stereotype beast, then we are harming our purpose because we are too busy fighting each other vs. helping each other so that our community benefits.

I'm saying. God don't make ugly but it exists anyway.

(That's not in reference to that link.)

I think it's partially this and partially people's observations. If you only know or see 20 XYZs and they all look and act a certain way, that's YOUR reality. Then you have stereotypes that many members push themselves. Like Ques being nasty and Alphas being bright.

Honestly, D9 stereotyping and disunity isn't a reality for many of us. Many of us have absolutely no static when we mingle with other BGLO members in our professional and social environments. Aside from occasional playful remarks, black folk have proven to just be black folk. Unless they are TRYING to live a stereotype and don't have a life outside of their org. And age may also have something to do with it.

I think age has a LOT to do with it. I am not really seeing this issue on the alumnae level but more on the undergraduate level. As someone said, with age comes maturity. Educating the undergrad is crucial. I have been witness to undergrad chapters of XYZ who don't support ABC because of "insert negative stereotype". Its ridiculous. I've even seen some be rude to each other. While they are fueling a rivalry, there are people in the community who could be benefitting from their joint efforts.jmho.

Make that age in human years and Greek years. I have surprisingly seen some old ass alumnae/graduate chapter newer members who act like they have to battle other organizations. Like they missed out on the fighting that they assumed happened in undergrad and are playing catch up.

This thread was reported to me. I guess another moderator cleaned it up. DSTChaos, loving your comments. I agree this thread should not even exist.

Look now, cause in a minute, it may just be history.

Not sure if it should be locked. I thought the topic was tired cause it's been discussed, rehashed, etc., etc. But with new GCers and new movies sometimes we need an old topic with new and fresh perspectives.
