Exclamation Words of Wisdom - To Neos

Share some words of wisdom for neos (doesn't matter the organization).

Before you do something...listen to the still small voice in your head that says "What would the Founders Think/Do?"

You are not in a position to "check" anybody else.

If you crossed in the spring and convention is that summer -- GO! Beg, borrow, and befriend sponsors . You WILL need that reinvigoration and the global context or else you will burn out and get jaded in that first year.

Befriend your brother/sister organization, but don't jock them.

Would you mind explaining that a little bit more?

And please, keep the tips coming!

Maintain cordial relationships with the members, but branch out and collaborate with other organizations. And don't get mad at them when they do the same. Joining AKA (for example) is not an automatic free pass to Alpha parties. Nor should Alphas get mad if AKAs like the Ques on their yard more.

I like this one!

It really is okay to be friends with someone in another organization. We're all basically trying to do the same thing, but in different colors.

Don't let the letters change you.

Gotcha. I did see a lot of that in undergrad.

Everyone makes mistakes. Take it as a learning experience and keep going.

Realize that while deference is always gonna kick your @ss as a neo, you'll get yours later on in (greek) life.

Come in and do the work, but don't start trying to change up completely established programs, traditions, etc. without knowing what they are about. You might have seen the program from the outside, but do the work for the program before you start making recommendations and motions to change things.

Patience...these organizations have been around for decades. Attend your local, state, regional, and national meetings to get a feel for how and why things are run, and then find ways to make a difference. Don't just rush in and go wild with "what you can do." You'll alienate a lot of members, even if your intentions are good.

Respect your oath--take it seriously.

Respect the elder members of your organization, if even you don't agree with them.

Have pride for your organization's accomplishments and membership, but realize that the world is larger than your organization, and you want people to see you as a positive reflection, not a hoo-riding cat throwing up sets and signs like your a crip.

Oh yeah, speaking of which, it is a greek-lettered organization founded on a COLLEGE CAMPUS, not a GANG.

The organization will survive only if you find a way to add value in a significant way--no organization needs a bunch of t-shirt wearers.

In short..... remain humble and if you aren't familiar with that word (although I don't see my not) do yourself a favor and research it.

What I've learned as a Neo is to take correction with humbleness. If a soror admonishes me to straighten up and fly right...I know she is doing it in sisterly love.

I also now know that there is no such thing as stupid questions.

Just my $0.20

You choose what represents your organization. The best, the worst and the humane.

KNOW YOUR DOCUMENTS!!! ALL OF THEM THE BETTER!!! THEY ARE PRINTED BY YOUR CORPORATE OFFICE AND LOCAL CHAPTERS FOR SEVERAL REASONS.

You are not the first, the last or the orginal member to ever have your particular problem within your organization. What are diamonds, goldens and silvers with pearls and gemstones are for??? And I am not talking about Jared
