COB events
I am in the middle of COB and struggling for "good events" to have. So far we've made valentines for the troops, bowling, and watching Grey's Anatomy.....
Also, I am having trouble having my girls invite PNMs. Once we get them there, recruiting is piece o' cake, but I feel like we've gotten into a rut, and I need some inspirational words.
Thanks so much

have you tried dividing the chapter into recruitment groups of 5 or 6 sisters per group? sometimes it seems a little less daunting having to invite someone to an informal recruitment event, when the members are working as a group.
each group decides the activity they will invite pnms to-coffee, lunch, movie, bowling, etc. you approve the activity.the group is in charge of inviting two or three pnms.surely between 5 or 6 girls they can come up with 2 or 3 girls from class or who are their neighbors, that they could see as sisters.
if all goes well, and the pnms seem interested, either have the group invite them for another activity, or have all the recruitment groups and their pnms come together for a recruitment party. at the whole chapter event, everyone gets to meet the pnms(and vice versa).

COB Ideas
That is our biggest challenge as well. I have a few suggestions for that.
1. don't stand on your diag and flyer (since that makes you look desperate), but try to get approval to post a flyer on a bulletin board in each of the dorms.
2. create some sort of incentive or activity points reward for girls in your chapter who bring pnms over.
3. utilize facebook. not to the point that it is stalkerish. but if you find a nice girl who has similar interests to you, she might be perfect for your sisterhood. also, create facebook events.
4. approach girls in your classes. a lot of our recent new mems had not even thought about greek life and rush until i approached them about it.
5. ask your current pledge class to create a cob event and invite pnms as a new member project. often the younger girls know more freshmen. also, they tend to get into it more if they had a say in planning the event.
6. check with your OGL/Panhel to see if they will give you the list of names of girls who dropped fall rush. then invite some of these girls to cob, particularly if they are girls you really liked during rush.
as far as themes go, we like pajama parties (mems wear pjs, food is popcorn and goldfish, girls bring down pillows, blankets, stuffed animals to decorate). we've also done spa/mary kay parties, and chocolate parties (we have a chocolate fountain and we buy strawberries, pound cake, rice krispies, marshmallows, etc. and fondue). we did a winter wonderland party, hung jumbo stars and blue paper and had girls make gingerbread houses.
To keep it real simple, try to theme it around meals at your house. we've had girls over for italian night (lasagna and bosco sticks and italian ice), mexican night (taco bar), french night (crepes), or ice cream sundaes.
Or, as one of our Leadership Consultants suggested, invite them to some of your sisterhood events or (as you did) philanthropy; that way your chapter won't have to have separate COBs.
Best,
Kat

Good advice has been given! Some more:
*Make your COB events invite only. Once girls in your chapter have met and made friends with women that thay think would make good sisters, have them invite them to a COB.

Also, promote the heck out of your community service events and invite non members to join you. These can act as open house opps to meet new women and perform service together. You can have these ladies sign in and contact the ones you liked later on for invite-only events. They don't necessarily have to come to your service event thinking it is COB-- just an opp to make some new friends and promote your sorority to the university.
