Pledged: The Secret Life of Soroities

Ok first off I am not praising this book in any way, I am just looking for opinions on it. Do you think this is an accurate in any way? Did this book anger you? Just anything you have to say about it, I am interested

well, I for one just finished it about a month ago and also am interested and dont give a damn what was done long ago...

Just direct your thoughts to the book now....it is one of the most visual of public relations tools out there to benefit or add further slams to the sorority system of membership.

I mainly was afraid that some dumb movie studio would try to do a film about it like the one they just released about stepping.....

Because I too agree that the old threads are dead, I'll entertain the topic here.

I thoroughly enjoyed the book. I mean, though not everything was perfect or ideal, it was very real to me. I mean for what didn't happen to myself, I saw similiar things happen to other people on my campus even. I don't think the book was harmful except to the people who failed to look at its positive aspects as well. I mean, as I recall, some of the girls made great friends and learned a lot through being greek...

The writer isn't greek, so I thought it was obvious that she had no clue what she was writing about. She was looking from the outside in. Though she followed selected girls throughout the book, I still think she over did it.

A friend of mine has the book and I glanced through it, but I didn't understand it so I put it down after the 1st few pages . I'm sure it's a good book though.

You really arent's missing out on much. I read it and I felt like I was reading a Danielle Steel novel for the college-aged sect.

Welcome, but with that kind of attitude, don't be surprised if lots of GCers are far too busy or indifferent to accomodate your impatience.

Oh, I don't know -- you might find it interesting to read some of the posts in the 2930428349283429834234 threads that got a reference to Greek Chat into the introduction of the paperback edition.

I don't know I've always thought that the author was the girl depicted at the beginning of the book. (The one who was rushing a huge Texas school and her mom and sister were waiting at the house she was a double legacy too, yet she didn't recieve a bid there). Something like that might turn anyone off of greek life and make them want to write a "tell all" about it.

I basically stopped reading on like page 6 when she made the assumption that sorority girls came from money and that they were all the popular girls (like the cheerleaders) in high school. Her assumption that we are all that disgusted me and I stopped reading. Sold the book to bookmans, was able to then buy classroom books. Now, that was a better use of the money.

Ok, correct me if I'm wrong but she claimed in her Skull and Bones book to be a member of a "sister" org (as far as I can tell another secret society on campus) didn't she?

This bugs me because she acts sooooo baffled that people would care about their letters (or even just respect the current members enough NOT to share ritual) even in their old age.

Yes, she was a member of one of the other clubs. She acts all bewildered because she feels that she is "above" all that. She just joined that club out of curiosity more than anything else.
