missing chapters
Hello all!
I have been doing some research on the history of the NPC sororities, and in order to get anywhere I need to have a comprehensive list of all the chapters of each sorority. Currently I am still missing information on some of Sigma Delta Tau's chapters an was wondering if anyone could help. I have all the chapters through Delta Eta except:
Alpha Alpha
Alpha Gamma
Beta Mu
Beta Omicron
Beta Sigma
Beta Psi
Beta Omega
I'd appreciate any help you can give!

Those chapters no longer exist, hence the unavailability of any information on them.

If you look at the chapter directory on the website, all inactive chapters are listed besides the ones she asked for, which doesn't make sense to me

I have a couple of ideas. Those chapters could have been colonized, named, but never chartered, as the National site only lists Charted Chapters. I've looked at an alum directory from the year when the Alpha Beta Chapter was founded and no Alpha Alpha is listed.
Or
There is a possibility that the schools that those chapters were established no longer exist themselves. Many Colleges have closed over the years (more than I could have imagined) and during the time that SDT was rapidly expanding, colleges were being established left and right. They could simply no longer exist.

Caryn, which chapters are you referring to here? Sorry, I can't seem to figure it out...

For instance, the Alpha Omicron chapter is closed and listed.

2 thoughts on that...
1--your chapter closed fairly recently, and i know that the website isn't kept up to date to the extent that it probably should be... maybe it is just an accident because it hasn't been updated yet? or are there other chapters that have closed some time ago and are still listed on the site as well?
2--your chapter didn't close for disciplinary reasons, so maybe that has something to do with why it is still listed? theorhetically, your chapter COULD reactivate at any time... so maybe that is part of the consideration in including a chapter on the list...
very interesting, though, regardless...

sorry to crash - but do you mean if you guys have a chapter that closed for disciplinary reasons, it can never open ever again?
Please let me know if that's too nebby of a thing to ask.

As far as I am away, the only way of not allowing a chapter to re-open would be if the school wasn't around any longer.
My chapter was closed almost a year ago, I'd like to think that it would be off the website by then..and even still that is a list of chartered chapters, not the list of current active chapters she was looking at. I would think it's morel iekly they were colonies that failed, for whatever reason, to become a chapter.

Chapter Lists
This is in response to beach-keene's request for information on chapter names for SDT. I am a long-time alum and this is what I was told about some of these names:
Alpha Alpha never used
Alpha Gamma was skipped because of Alpha Gamma Delta sorority (someone thought it would be too confusing)
Beta Sigma chapter was at Herbert H. Lehman college in NY (inactive)
You can contact Ann Braly ( abraly@sdt.com) at the National Office for further information.

Hey Paula, welcome to GC! It's great to have another Sig Delt around!
Do you know why Alpha Alpha was never used? As for Alpha Gamma, I've never heard of any other sorority skipping it, but I guess it makes some sense.
Beta Sigma was probably closed during the 1970's sweep of all Greeks from CUNY campuses, but it seems odd to me that it isn't listed. Do you have any info on the others?

I do not have information on any of the other unlisted chapter names for SDT. The best source will be the national office ( abraly@sigmadeltatau.com). The national website lists all chapters whether active or inactive (in two separate listings) and there is no mention of these chapter names.
We just had our 43rd year reunion...eveyone looks fantastic (buy stock in Clairol!) and had wonderful stories and pictures to share.
