I missed most of the show, but I have to say that song Katharine just sang (the last one) was AWFUL. I absolutely hated it, and she didn't sound great singing it. But maybe that's not her fault... I mean, you can't do much with such a lame song.

Oh yeah... they release their "singles" tonight.
Ugh... maybe I won't watch.

Well, at least I know how to text message now. I tried calling and got through the first time, but have had busy signals since. So, I gave in and started text messaging.
Who the heck wrote that song for Kat?????????? What a horrible song to have to sing. So many transitions in it, slow then fast, high then low, sometimes in the same line of the dang song. UGH. That's why I made sure I voted.. 25 times! Totally unfair to give her such a poorly written song.
I think I liked it better last year when Bo and Carrie had to sing the same exact song.
I wasn't crazy about Taylor's song either. He was a little more mellow tonight, so I won't feel as badly if he wins.

Did I hear correctly on Entertainment Tonight that the girl song was written by Tamyra from AI Season 1 and the boy song was written by Nich Lachey?
I think that is what they said.
Both songs sucked.

All the AI singles have been super cheesy and lame, but these two take the cake! Neither of them even looked very happy about what they were singing, and who can blame them?!?! At least Randy pointed out that Kat's song sucked.

I think it sucks that Katherine got a crappy song (though the AI specific songs are always cheesy crap) then got dogged for it by the judges... it's not like she had a choice!
I'm not a Taylor fan. He's just ehhh for me. Though i'm not a huge Katherine fan but I think she could go more the Kelly Clarkson route and end up fairly successful. Taylor may have people liking him in the competition, but how many will buy his album? I don't think jazz/soul is really big among the target age group.

According to dialidol.com, Taylor will win.
Taylor Hicks 45.583
Katharine McPhee 37.097
I also felt bad for her as her song sucked big time! And you could tell she didn't like it. She looked pretty dejected singing it. And seriously, could we get rid of the friggin gospel singers? It loses the wow factor in the 5th sesaon...

Last night was the first time I watched a whole episode. What is the hype with Taylor? And how old is he?
When I think of an American Idol, I think of someone who will be popular with a younger crowd. Does Taylor have a younger fan base? I think he just really bothers me. I felt like I was watching Barry Manilow and I really wanted to bust out a Breakfast Club quote and ask him "Does Barry Manilow know you raid his wardrobe?" WTF was that purple jacket and cowboy boots?
I haven't really heard Katherine but I kinda liked her last night, and I kinda liked the song. Hate the choir coming out. That was way cheesy.

Songwriters are Harry Sommerdahl, Hanne Sorvag and Tim Baxter for My Destiny, and Tracy Ackerman and Absolute for Do I Make You Proud.

Well, I'm an American, and I'm not particularly young.
Shouldn't an "American Idol" cross all -- or at least as many as possible -- of the age groups.
"Somewhere Over The Rainbow," which seems to be Katharine's signature song is certainly not aimed at the youth audience.
Last night was the first entire show I watched, too, although wife and oldest daughter love it.

Taylor is going to win but his album sales will be subpar. People are voting for him because he's quirky. These people won't buy his album.

I didn't watch last night but I'm sure I'll get to hear both singles again tonight in the TWO HOUR finale. (I mean really... come ON!)
And some of the folks from Idol past are returning to sing/perform/watch... so maybe I'll watch for just that.
I don't care who wins really.

I only got through for Taylor twice last night. I'm hoping that's a good sign I liked his last song, as cheesy as it was.
