Question "Idol" champ Fantasia playing herself in TV movie

I love lifetime and plan to support this movie. What do you all think? Has it hurt her career that she came out about her illiteracy? I think she is a strong woman for doing so and her fans and family should be proud.

Wow sorry to hear that. They actually have great movies on there. Have you seen the documentary movie on the lives of the children that were killed in the Columbine High School shootings?

Nope. I did, however, see 'Bowling for Columbine' and that was enough for me, lol! No, but since I didn't watch TV growing up, I have a really bad taste in my mouth about television programming in general. And Lifetime seems to me rather pedantic...

Oh ok, to each is own. I hear what you are saying. I am a sucker for a romantic movie or a child story where the parents are reunited. I am mushy like that.

I agree! After awhile, it becomes depressing.

Plus, Lifetime doesn't have that many Original Movies highlighting Af Ams (if at all), so I'm sure I'll watch or at least DVR the movie.

You're right!! The only LOM that I've seen that was Af Am centered was "Jackie's Back!" and it was downright silly! I will confess that I watched it and laughed at some of it. I will watch Fantasia's movie, though. My favorite LOM is the one with the mom who had the twin sons with autism. I think it was called "Miracle Run".

Luv Me Sum Lifetime

I am addicted to Lifetime and Lifetime Movie Network. The new one called Third Trimester, was great. I love to watch those movies just because I can have some me time. My husband talks about them, but usually he ends up sitting on the couch with me talking about the "stupid man" who got caught cheating on his wife. Can't wait for Fantasia's movie. I read her book and it was okay. Not a pulitzer prize, but good reading anyway.

I know me and my husband are the same way. I haven't seen the Third Trimester though. What was that about? You can send me a PM if you like.

AI producers upset about movie (People.com)

Although Fantasia: Life is Not a Fairy Tale – the TV movie about third-season American Idol winner Fantasia Barrino's difficult past – is not due to air on Lifetime until Aug. 19, producers of the FOX talent show reportedly are already crying foul over their depiction in the biopic.

"Certainly, under no circumstances was she ever approached to be talked out of taking part in (the show)," Idol executive producer Ken Warwick tells the New York Post, in response to the tele-movie's claim that Barrino was urged to withdraw from the competition because – as an unwed mother and high-school drop-out – she was not a suitable role model.

"We knew she had a baby right from Day One, and she was always strongly tipped to win the competition because she was so good," insists Warwick, adding, "I can absolutely refute that nothing was done, or even remotely suggested to her that she shouldn't take part in the competition. It's a complete fabrication."

According to the Post, the movie opens with the then-19-year-old Barrino's coming off the Idol stage and being asked to speak with producers, who confront her with Internet postings about her suitability to compete.

"It's absolutely and totally untrue," Warwick responds. "I'm the executive producer, Nigel (Lythgoe) is the other executive producer and nobody – to my knowledge – would have said anything like that to her."

There has been no comment from Barrino on Warwick's claims.

Earlier this month, the singer told the Television Critics Association at its summer meeting that the movie – in which she plays herself – was a difficult experience for her because, among other reasons, she had to relive the rape the resulted in her having a child.

Still, she said, she believes her story can inspire others. "At the end, I began to cry and I said, 'I went through all those things, but I know why I share my life.' I'm thankful that I was able to do it," she said.

I wouldn't be suprised if this is the truth and they wanted Fantaisa out. The reason Lifetime is showing this movie is because she is living and making her American dream!

You know what I do too and she should tell the real story. How many times are single mothers but down by the media! Good for her, tell the story.
