I second the Subaru. My parents have been driving them for a few years and love them! The Forrester does well in the snow. It's not the cutest thing ever, but it's a nice, small SUV with great gas mileage, great quality, and will have a great resale value! People drive those things until it dies. When I bought my car, I had wanted to get a used Subaru, but there were hardly anywhere out there used except the Outback (I refused to drive a jacked-up station wagon).

I love my Camry.. I fill up every 2 weeks.... and i drive ALOT..
but i do try to monitor my AC use as it does seem to suck more gas..
ill have to calculate my gas mileage..
but i do know that when we went to titusville to see the shuttle launch we filled up on the way back... 3 1/2 hours later i had only gone down a 1/4th and i had gas the whole rest of the week and part of the next week.. at first i thought my gas reader was broken and took it to get checked out...but nope.. everything was OK.
the more expensive gas gets the happier i am that i only fill up once every 2 weeks.

I drive an Element -- the no carpet thing is great.
It gets about 21/24 street v. highway -- not great, but not horrible.
It has the all wheel drive thing that turns on automatically. I'm not sure how useful that is since it snows only once or twice a year in Oklahoma.

i have a traiblazer. i get about 20 highway. i couldn't tell you city b/c i live in th boondocks and don't often drive in city traffic. my town has one main 4-way stop and no stop lights. but we do have a DQ!
i worry about gas, especially b/c i drive 70 miles roundtrip every day for work. i just don't think i could ever drive a car again. my only car was in HS and i loved my honda accord. then inherited an old jeep cherokee (not the grand, just a plain one) and LOVED it until some lady totalled it for me by turning in front of me. After that accident, i just can't imagine driving a regular car again! ANd my husband is 6' 7", so it's not like i can get something small! He barely fits in my SUV as it is. I guess i am stuck with at least a mid-sized SUV, unless he decides to shrink a few inches.

This is really strange. I just bought a Trailblazer (three-rows), I also drive 70 miles per day all highway and I am 6'5" (I also must have a big ride myself). Are you sure we're not married? lol (she's an Alpha Xi Delta).

I have a Jeep Liberty CRD (diesel). The more we drive it, the more the engine gets broken in and the better milege we'll get. When we bought it in June, we took it on a trip to Little Rock and got about 25 mpg. Just this last weekend we drove it to Des Moines and back and got about 30 mpg. With the modifications the husband wants to make concerning air intake and exhaust, we could eventually get up to 40 mpg. Not bad for a small/mid SUV that we plan on driving for 10+ years.
