Homecoming Partners

I was just wondering what fraternity/sorority are you guys parnterned up with and how you/they asked or how they were choosen for Homecoming.

We are partnered up with Delta Chi. They came to our house, sang to us, gave each girl a flower, and baked cupcakes. They even personalized them with our names. It was really cute.

We also don't do the partnering thing...
The only thing we do for homecoming is SongFest (I think it is like other campus' Greek Sing)--Dancing, and singing, and skits... that sort of thing. That is an individual event.

I agree, partners? Now there is an idea. I wish we made floats and stuff too.

We are doing homecoming this fall with the men of Alpha Kappa Lambda and Phi Beta Sigma... I am SO excited!

For homecoming, the two fraternities are paired by Greek Life and then decide which sorority they would like to court. (For Greek Week, the women court the men.) Courting consists of little gifts and stuff... AKL wrote "I love Jane Doe" (or whatever the girl's name happened to be, haha) on blue balloons... one for every girl in the chapter... and left them all in our TV room before chapter one night. The men also arranged for us to all watch a movie together one night and came to the house to pick us up. We did a "blue moon raid" at their house where we show up at midnight and bring them blue cakes and candy and food and such and we also put posters throughout their house! (Haha, courting's a big deal...)

To show that you are officially interested in a sorority, you write a serenade for them and perform it. (It's like a skit!) If a sorority is serenaded more than once, they have to vote which fraternity they prefer and then serenade them back to accept their invitation to do homecoming.

Then you wait four months... and then you pomp, do more skits, and dancing, and sometimes singing, and build a float, etc... so stressful but tons of fun!

Our homecoming pairings are done randomly, and since our homecoming isn't until Sept./Oct. we don't know the pairs yet.

We don't do courting and stuff at my school. It's basically, you ask eachother if yuo want to do homcoming together.

This year, I'm Homecoming chair and we are working with Sig Tau, Acacia, & Alpha Xi Delta. It's always two fraternities and two sororities building the floats.
Our theme this year overall is "Disney Movies" basically. We are doing Tarzan, it should be pretty good.

Certain fraternities ALWAYS work together, such as Sigma Chi & Theta Chi...but usually it changes from year to year.

Our theme last year was Disney Movies! (For our house decorations at least... the theme for our skits were musicals.) We were Aladdin!

The money for floats and other homecoming events does not come out of the chapter budget, rather you go out to area businesses and get sponsorships. For their money the businesses get their name on the back of your homecoming shirt (advertising) and sometimes on a banner that is displayed on the sorority house.

The incentive: Compition, We all want to win and also how some school spirit.
Prizes: 1st, 2nd, 3rd place trophies and some money awarded to the chapters
Judges: The alumnik association is in charge of getting the judges. Usally faculty and staff.
Cost: We do spend some money but we get alot of stuff from alumni. Also the Alumni Association has a program (have to go to a workshop about float building) with will reimburst the chapter for most of the expenses.
Parade: We do have a parade every year and we all ride on the float down the street. Any organization of campus can put a float in.
Themes: The themes are chosen by the Alumni Assocation. They take suggestion of what we would like to have and they vote on it. Last year our theme was "The ABC's of Aggie Innovation" and the year before was "Heros"
These are just some of the floats
This is half of our float from last year.

here is the other half

SAE and DZ

We don't have floats either but Homecoming is a big deal at our school. Just because all the alumni come and you have to pick the right fraernity to do it with. This year we will hopefully do it with Sigma Pi and Lambda Iota (a local sororoity). We love Sig PI and out almuni will be very happy with that.
