				 Rush songs

			Hey all!
I was wondering if you guys knew of any cutesy songs for rush. I think our selection is a little small and my brain is dead from finals and I can't think of any cute ones! I know there's soe song to the tune of Oscar Meyer (Oh I wish I was a Kappa Kappa Gamma...) but I don't know any other lyrics. If anyone could either help me with songs or point me to somewhere I could find some, Epsilon Delta at Arizona State would greatly appreciate it. Oh yea, I'd appreciate it too!
Loyally,
Beth

Welcome to the forum, KappaPrincess! So nice to have you here!!
I know a bunch of cute rush songs, but how will you be able to hear the tune? Hmmm... I'll just start with the ones that go to familiar tunes...

 1) To the tune of "Tom's Diner" by Suzanne Vega (You know that part that goes, Doo-do-Doo-do, Doo-do-Doo-do, Do Do do-do doo-do-doo-doo)--so descriptive, I know, but those are the actual lyrics. Anyway, here are the KKG lyrics:

 Kappa Kappa Gamma
 KKG
 Go Kappa Gamma (woo!)
 Kappa Kappa Gamma
 KKG
 Go Kappa Gamma
 Come with me to KKG
The only place for you to be
 Go Kappa!
 Go Kappa!
 Go Kappa, KKG!

 2) To the tune of My Sharona:

Oh, there is a place I go
 I place I know
Oh, there is a place I love
 KAPPA GAMMA
Baby won't you come with me?
 And you will see
Kappa is the place to be
 KAPPA GAMMA
 Kappa's number 1
 Without a doubt
 Always on the move
 We're in the groove
 Go K-A-P-P-A, woo!

 3) I don't know how to describe the tune of this one... I know it is a famous tune, but i can't figure out what it's from

 K-a-pp-a, Kappa
 Kappa Kappa Gamma
 K-a-pp-a, KKG for me! (woo!)

 4) I love this song, again, though, I don't know how to describe the tune. It's very upbeat and cute:

 Got along without ya
 Before I met ya
Couldn't get along without ya now
 Found a little golden key
 And boy I'm happy now
 Got rushed by ev'ry sorority
 But KKG appealed to me
 Got along without ya
 Before I met ya
Couldn't get along without ya now!

 4) Does your chapter do "On the Heart of Each Sister"? Mine didn't, but the last chapter I advised (U. of Iowa) and the current chapter I advise (Babson College) do... it's so pretty! Here are the lyrics, just in case you don't know it:

On the heart of each sister
Lies one key that binds us
It's there to remind us of fraternity days
 Down deep there's a friendship
 That needs no concealing
Our hearts are revealing in so many ways
It is here that we measure
 Each day with new pleasure
 Our friendships outlasting
 Our college-hood days
 And in the years after
 With tears or with laughter
 We'll always remember
 Our dear Kappa days.

 5) Here is a more serious song (for Pref night) that was written for my chapter (Delta):

High on a hill where the fleur-de-lis grow
There is a golden key on a house I love so
How we ran and we sang and we laughed on that hill
And the mem'ry of the golden key follows me still
And the frienship of Kappa will live through the years
Through the sun of a young girl's smile and the rain of an old woman's tears.

I still see the pictures that hung on the wall
I still hear the echoes of laughter in the hall
My hair has grown gray and my eyes dimly see
But the mem'ry of the golden key remains with me
And the friendship of Kappa will live through the years
Through the sun of a young girl's smile and the rain of an old woman's tears.

 Hope these are (remotely) helpful!!!!

 L&L,
 Kristen

I just thought of 2 more really cute ones that I've heard:
 (1) to the tune of "Sweet Home Alabama":

 Sweet Home, Kappa Gamma
How I love your blue and blue (yes I do)
 Sweet Home, Kappa Gamma
Come and see, and you'll love it too (yes it's true)...

(that's all I can remember, but it was so cute!)

 (2) to the tune of Copa Cabana (you'll have to find something else to rhyme with "cabana"... I went to Indiana U., so that's why we used that rhyme...

 At the Kappa
 Kappa Cabana
It's the hottest spot at Indiana
 Here at the Kappa
 Kappa Cabana
 Friendship and laughter
 Will be here ever after
 At Kappa....
 You'll fall in love.

 Hope those help!!

 L&L,
 Kristen

 | Hey Beth--

Here are all of the words to Kappa Cabana, as written by the Delta Chapter:

Her name is Karen,
she is a Rushee
With confusion on her mind,
There was one place she came to find
She came to KAPPA
Kappa Cabana
And when she saw all our fun,
She knew that OUR HOUSE WAS THE ONE
Where she could fit right in
And wear our golden pin
Right then she knew that KKG
Was the PLACE TO BE

At the Kappa
Kappa Cabana
It's the hottest spot at Indiana
Here at the Kappa
Kappa Cabana
Friendship and laughter
Will be here everafter
At Kappa....
You'll fall in love.

Loyally,

Okay, I know I am a cheeseball, but I just remembered another one we did in a 60's skit once:
To "Stayin' Alive":

Well you can tell by the way we all hang out
We're the Kappa crew
And it's time to shout
Blue and blue is what we know
And loyalty is what we show
Cause it's Kappa
KKG
We're a true fraternity
We can talk
And we can shout
And that's what Kappa's all about

Hanging out at Kappa and enjoying the style
That's KKG
KKG
Havin' lots of fun and enjoying the sun
Out at KKG,
KKG

Ah, ah, ah, ah KKG!

Okay.... enough from me for now!!!!
------------------
Oh, Kappa Kappa Kappa Gamma,
I'm so happy that I am a
Kappa Kappa Kappa Gamma,
Nobody knows . . . how
happy I am!

I don't know if y'all sing these songs, but I wanted to put them out here for you to see!
 Won't you go Kappa?

 Won't you go Kappa?
 I say GO KAPPA
Please be a KKG from USC (substitute school)
And please remember, come this September,
 Remember Kappa's longing for you,
And if you pledge we'll do our best to show you that you've done right,
'Cause we think to be a Kappa is a REAL delight
 So please go Kappa
 I SAY GO KAPPA
'Cause we went Kappa, we went Kappa, we went Kappa too.

 Here is a cute one!

(Split into two groups to sing all but the last two lines back to each other)

 K
 K
 KKG
 KKG
 Kappa Gamma K K G
 Kappa Gamma K K G
You're the only one for me
You're the only one for me
Got that key that fleur de lis
Got that key that fleur de lis
 Bound together for eternity
 Bound together for eternity
Kappa's the one that's got blue on blue
Kappa's the one that's got blue on blue
Kappa's the one that says we want you
Kappa's the one that says we want you
 With a K A P P A G A M M A
That's Kappa Gamma That's Kappa Gamma Hey Hey!

 Rah Rah

Rah Rah for Kappa Kappa Gamma
Three cheers for the girls who wear the blue and blue
And you can quote me when I say I am a
Kappa girl from KKG I'm true
The Wise old owl who wears the golden key
Blue ribbon gardens grow the fleur de lis
Oh the owl, the key, the blue the blue, the fleur de lis and that's for me
 Rah Rah for KKG

Here's one I really like, and I understand it has another verse but I don't know it

'Cause I'm a Kappa Kappa Gamma
Bet your life I am a
Girl who's proud to wear the Golden Key
So tell those other chapters what you want to be
And be the BEST go KKG

Rah Rah is my favorite for rush! We sing it actually when we pass out bids to the girls! They love it!

I don't know if any of you sing "Hag 'n Hag" (preferred drinking song of Zeta Epsilon), but if you know it, there's a Rush version too:
We're Kappa Kappa Gammas
We love our golden keys
It's you our special rushees
That we are here to please

We hope you'll like our party
and we think you'll surely see
That the best of every college
Are the ones of KKG

So here's to Kappa Gamma
our colors blue and blue
Here's to Kappa Gamma
We're interested in you
Here's to Kappa Gamma
Forever we'll be true
Key of gold, for you we'll hold
come and be a KKG!

My chapter sang "Rah Rah for Kappa Kappa Gamma" too and in the middle section where you chant "K! Kappa Kappa Gamma, K! Bet your life I am a G! Girl who's proud to wear the golden key" we made K's and gammas with our arms and legs (too fun). There's a last verse to the song, too that goes

Don't let those
Others blind you
Just leave 'em all behind you
And welcome to KKG
I wanna tell you
Welcome to KKG!

The tune to "On the Heart of Each Sister" is "The Ash Grove," for chapters that don't know it.

I came from a chapter of many music majors...We did a LOT of singing

				Songs

Hello Kappas!!! I'm new to this forum, but I wanted to list some of my chapters KKG songs...during rush we have a whole round where we sing a TON of songs so here are some of them...
SONG #1: (it's really fast and upbeat!)

Oh when a Kappa girl walks down the street
she's got a look on her that's hard to beat
she's got the smile, that style, that winning way
and when you look at her you'll POP your eyes and say
you'll say "now there's a girl I'd like to know, she's got that Kappa spirit PEP and GO PEP and GO (move arm up & down here)
look at her she's quite a treat it's hard to beat a Kaaaappppppaaaaa giiiiiirrrrrlllll
 K-A-P-P-A K-A-P-P-A G-A-M-M-A
 kappa kappa gamma hey!!!!!

SONG #2: (there's harmony in this one and it sounds awesome!!!)

They call it that good ol' blue and blue
and them that refuse it are few
 (Mighty few)
you can look all around, but nothing can be found that is better than that good ol' blue and blue

My old aunt sue had some friends true and true they've been friends since their days at TCU (school initials)
 (Yee Haw)
when i asked her just why she started to cry nothing's better than that good ol' blue and blue
 (ah uh)

 Chorus (from above)

When i first came to school i had friends that were few
i felt so lost and alone
 (boo hoo)
but my life changed quickly when I pinned on that key
nothing's beter than that good ol' blue and blue
 (ah uh)

 Chorus

 SONG #3:

how'd you like to be a KKG?
How'd you like to wear the golden key?
 (i ask you)
how'd you like to be a KKG?
How'd you like to wear the golden key?
do the things that all the kappas do
 wear the blue and blue
 be ever loyal true
kappa gamma she's the best of all
friendships made that never seem to fall
come and join the best fraternity
and be a kappa kappa gamma with me
 (clap clap)
how'd you like to wear the sigma delta pin
and the colors blue and blue?
there is nothing more in all the world in all the world
 the kappa colors true
other girls may rush you for a while
they may thrill you through and through
but you'll never leave when the KKG's say
 we want you

SONG #4: (this one has motions and goes to thank god i'm a country boy) the stuff in parentheses is somthing that just one girl says

well, life as a kappa is kinda laid back
but nothing an ol' kappa like me can't hack
 (late to bed)
 (later in the sack)
thank god i'm a kappa gam!
this simple kind of life never did us no harm
growing in the sisterhood with all its special charm
 (work all day long)
 (don't study worth a darn)
thank god i'm a kappa gam

 CHORUS:
we've got us our pickers with them on the fiddle
and tuesday morning there's cake on the griddle
plain outside but blue in the middle
thank god i'm a kappa gam

when the work's all done about 2 am
we crawl into bed and we talk about the men
 (go to sleep at 9)
 (got a class at 10)
thank god i'm a kappa gam!
well i'd play hookey everyday if i could
but the Lord and the grades wouldn't take it very good
(so i study just a little)
(and i play when i should)
thank god i'm a kappa gam!

 CHORUS

those fraternity guys driving big limosines
they all think us kappas are pretty neat and keen
 they say to each other
(let me tell you what i mean)
thank god i'm a kappa gam
we're kappas through and through 'til the day we die
even at the pearly gates we're side by side
(slip st. peter the ol' grip with pride)
thank god i'm a kappa gam!

 slow down:
we thank the Lord daily for loving us so well
He knows all our secrets but he won't tell
you won't find a kappa way down in hhhhhhuuuuhhhhhh
 well.....
thank god i'm a kappa gam!

 SONG #5: (it's a slow one)

 once when we were new
 and confused like you
we went all through rush wondering just what to do
til the kkg's with their golden key sang these words we found to be true
 pledge kkg pledge kkg
 the very best fraternity
blue and blue our favorite hues
friendships we will never lose so be wise as owls when you choose
and then you will find love and loyalty so true
kappa kappa kappa kappa kappa kappa kappa kappa kappa kappa gamma is for you

SONG #6: (okay...this is a slow one to to sing while the girls are about to leave the house)

 mmmmMMMMM we'd like to linger
 mmmmm a little longer
mmmmmm a little longer with you
mmmmmMMMMM it's been so great to see
 mmmmm a kappa memory
 mmmmmm remember kkg the key

 so long kappa rushee
 bye bye kappa rushee
don't forget about the kappa key
 we're glad to meet you
 we're glad to greet you
we hope to see you again
 so loooonnnngggg kappa rushee
 bye byyyyyyeeee for now
don't forget about that kappa key

Well those are only a few...hope they help!!!!
