more good news from the southwest!
Hi ladies! Just wanted to let you know that the women at Gamma Alpha Chapter (San Diego State University) have 37 amazing new members! I am so proud of all of my chapters and how well they have done this year. UCLA will be finishing rush on Wednesday and I will post their results then. Until Wednesday....

Looking for a report from...
"SilverIvy"
An Alpha Phi lady whose handle is "SilverIvy" had posted her chapter's quota story here. I can't remember what chapter she was from though. I do know they made quota (++). SilverIvy, if you read this, remind us of your great news!

UCLA-Phis
Hey Laura--how'd Alpha Phi at UCLA do? UCLA is my Dad's alma mater, so I have a particular curiosity. Let us know when you have a chance.

Beta Delta Results
Well my friends, Beta Delta, UCLA was my last fall rushing chapter (not to mention my chapter). I am proud to report that they did amazing in formal rush! Quota was 27 and Alpha Phi pledged 31! All but one chapter on campus pledged quota and that chapter came very close (-5). I am so happy for the UCLA greek system! GO BRUINS! Okay, I know that's a little excessive Bruin pride showing through but I am so happy to end the fall formal rush season on such a positive note.
Hope all is well!

Excellent!
Laura: Thanks for the post on the UCLA-Phis! Way to go Bruins! Congrats to them and to you--you're obviously doing an amazing job out there in the Southwest.
I am curious about the Greek system at UCLA. My Dad wasn't a fraternity man when he was at UCLA and doesn't know anything about it. Is it a major Greek campus?
Thanks again for all of your fantastic info on the California/Southwest Alpha Phi scene. It's been great hearing all the positive news!

Jen

UCLA Greek System
The Greek System at UCLA is large but does not compose a large percentage of the university as a whole. It has approximately 2000-2500 members divided b/w the fraternities and soroities. There are 11 NPC sororities (GFB recolonized in Spring of 2000) and I believe AXO is recolonizing in Spring 2002 (although I heard that this might have been postponed). When I was in school there were 21 fraternities, but that number shifts from year to year. Total has held steady at 115 since my freshman year when it was reduced from 130. When I went through rush there were 13 sororities on campus, but Sigma Kappa, Gamma Phi Beta and Alpha Chi Omega closed during my 4 years on campus. Currently, the NPC groups represented are (in alphabetical order):
Alpha Delta Pi
Alpha Epsilon Phi
Alpha Phi
Gamma Phi Beta
Delta Gamma
Delta Delta Delta
Kappa Alpha Theta
Kappa Delta
Kappa Kappa Gamma
Pi Beta Phi
Chi Omega
When my parents were in school at UCLA (yes, I am a major Bruin leg), there were 21 sororities on campus and I don't know how many fraternities there were. My mom was an Alpha Gam and my dad was independent. It was the 60's and the chapters were small in size back then.

Laura

Hey guys...just wanted to mention how our sisters at GW did. My chapter from George Mason went up to help them at their Preference since they never had done an Ivy Ceremony before. On their Bid Day, they ended up getting 65 awesome new members. I'm so proud of them since other fraternities are already talking about how awesome they are and they've only been a chapter for four days.

Yay GW!
My best friend and A-Phi sister was at the recruitment events last week at George Washington. She said the quality of women who attended these parties was truly impressive. Congrats to the GW colony!
