I, personally couldn't do it because it would no longer be exclusive. For all I know he could've slept with someone the night before and it would be none of my business. Going from exclusivity to non-exclusivity is a hard thing for me... therefore I'd cut all sexual ties.
On the flip side it is familiar and you two know each other.
So it may be positive for some... but negative for me.

I can't do it either...
I figure, we parted for a reason, why bring the sex back into the equation -- right? I dunno, maybe there's something wrong with my "drive" ... Cuz I don't really have a desire to "crank" unless I have a Man. I guess I need that other level there for me to feel him. I ain't sayin' I ain't never had no indiscretion (*ahem*). But it didn't feel okay, and I couldn't make a "thing" out of it... No sex with the "ex" for me -- until we get back together...

I have to agree with AKA2D '91. If I need a fix and he is available and willing (with no problems with the deal), then I'd go for it.

However, it would also depend on "why" he is an ex and if I could count on discrection and no abuse of the situation once the fun was over.

As far as the topic at hand, I don't really see a problem with it. As long as BOTH parties have TALKED about it, and are ok with the circumstances that surround the situation, whatever those may be, I say cool.
