If your job offered...
...to let you work 4 days a week (still working 40hrs)
1. would you be interested?
2. What day would you eliminate?

I only do 4 days "face time", but I am also on call 24 hours on 4 days. I have Fridays off, and I love it!

I'd want to work 4 consecutive days in a row just so there wouldn't have to be breaks in between any work I might be trying to do, but considering the work force would have to be staggered the possibility of having the same day off every week would be small (since everyone would most likely want Monday or Friday.)
Personally I'd prefer to keep my 8 hour days & work one day from home.

I used to work that schedule, and I took Fridays off. It worked better for me because I had to liaison with our international offices, in Europe, PacRim and Australia.
The best times of day were before and after the 9-5 hours, because I didn't have people bothering me. Heck, I usually came in early and stayed late before I had changed, so it made sense.

Four ten hour days also conserves on gas and gives a longer weekend .
But, I never had a job that I could do that.

I work a 9/80 schedule, so I have every other Friday off.
I have been thinking of going to a 4/10 schedule to have every Friday off.

My job offers the 9/80 schedule as well. I take Mondays off, because everyone else takes Fridays so the office is quiet and I can get work done. The only down side is sometimes people don't play by the telecommuting rules or are sick, so like today there was 2 of us in the office. Of course the people who come in who needed to speak with the person who has been sick all week or the people who were flexing. Then the customers became offended because I had the audacity to tell them maybe next time they should call before they make the 45 min or so drive to see us.
I don't think I could handle a 10 hour day at my office. I want to gouge my eyes out at 9 hours most of the time.

My job offers 4/10s. I can't do it personally because I have to get my kids off to school at a certain time and have to be home to get them to activities in the evenings. It's already rushed with 8 hour days. (Our 8 hour days are actually 8.5 to include lunch and the 10 hour days are 10.5 to include lunch). Usually, by 4:10 or so (I work until 4:30), I'm so ready to leave that I'm climbing the walls. I can't imagine staying in that building for 10 hours. It's also a hassle when there's a holiday because holiday pay is for 8 hours. If you want 10 hours off that day, you have to use 2 hours vacation. Then again, since you have a day free during the week, you can schedule all of your doctor appointments, home contractor appointments, etc. on your day off so you don't have to use vacation time for those. I might consider it when the kids are out of the house.

This is my first job out of grad school, so adjusting to 9 hour work days was really easy. Plus I really love my job, so I don't mind being at work 9 hours. Compared to the hours I was putting in at the lab in grad school, working only 9 hours is easy.

LOL.. my thought exactly. There was a time when I felt the same way but 21 years post college, I'm tired of being at work all the time. I can think of so many places I would rather be than work.

1. Hell yeah.
2. Mondays or Fridays would be ideal, but whatever day would work for me.

I'd love to do 4 day weeks. Tuesdays and Thursdays are usual bid days, so I couldn't take either of those off (not that anyonw would want a day off in the middle). What I'd really like to do is one week M-Th then the next week Tue-Fri. And alternate like that. It would really depend on when job meetings and other random events occur. I doubt I could have a 100% consistant schedule.

if i WAS working... id totally do a 4-day workweek with a day off. while fridays sounds awesome to have off... i think monday would be just as good. if none of my friends had friday off then i would just be hanging around doing nothing. and i find Mondays better days to get business done.
