Disaffiliation

hello, i thought i would come here looking for answers. i was a founder of my NPC organization on my campus 2 years ago, and since then things were exceptionally well. however, over the past year things have gone steadily downhill and ultimatley led to my forced disaffiliation with the organization. i was accused of "gossiping" and being a detriment to the organization. there was much outcry throughout our greek community. i went through the appeal process, got notable members within the sorority as well as notable members within my campus/greek community, and yet the deciding council felt that i did not provide enough "new" information to overthrow the decision. i have a lot of support through the greek community and i am being approached by members of other greek organizations asking if i am going to join another greek organization. i did not think that this was possible, i just was not sure the logistics of this. any help you all can give me, i would appreciate it. thanks

you cannot join another NPC group if that is the question you're asking.

If it's membership in a sorority outside the NPC you wish to pursue, your friens will need to check their bylaws.

Just as t*p already said, you can't join another NPC..even if you've already severed ties with your NPC sorority, and you've already turned in your badge.

I'm surprised that other members of greek organizations would ask if you were going to join another greek organization. The others are correct when they tell you that you cannot join another NPC group.

Hm...why would you try to overturn that if they obviously didn't want you in?

They probably have just a credible a story as, so don't come here looking for people to sympathize for you, cause while some might, odds are you won't get much of it.

...because the actions and opinions of a few do not define a sisterhood. I know EXACTLY how the OP feels.

I don't see it as seeking sympathy. The girl asked an honest question and she got honest answers.

if you weren't chartered yet, you can still join another group without breaking the rules

if you have been, and another group wants you to join, my advice would be to join and break the rules

Who is the deciding council that you refered to in your post?

If it was the local chapter, did you contact your HQ?

Something just doesn't ring true and I wonder why.

I know I've said it before, but I'll say it again...

I'm really glad the NPC Unanimous Agreement regarding dual memberships is in place. It's simple and easy to understand.

disaffiliating

Your national organization may have an appeals process that would allow you to challenge the cancellation of your membership to your governing board/council at that level. Check your bylaws or your Standard Operation Proccedures type of manual.

sorry i haven't posted back...i was waiting to see some of the responses from individuals. to start off, i honestly am not looking for sympathy. sympathy doesn't do anyone a lick of good. secondly, this is not setting right with me because during my entire time that charges were being filed against me, the chapter was not following the constitution. when i talked to the advisors about it, brought up things to the executive board members, the told me that it was vague so that the organization had the ability to interpret it the way they saw fit. our elections were not run correctly, tried to confront the organization about that (appropriate people), i got brought up to standards. when ritual was not being followed and i attempted to call nationals and ask questions, i got accused of insubordination and i became ineligible for a little because of my actions (a decision made before i even got to meet with the standards board (contradicting our local and national constitution)). double jeopardy, for lack of a better word was happening, i appealed decisions and got more punishments for trying to appeal. i got removed from my office without giving time to appeal (contradiciting the constitution)). then i was removed from the organization based on a combination of things that had already been brought before 2 months prior. that is in a nut shell what is going on. i was never allowed to contact nationals, and if i ever did again, i would be accused of insubordination.

things are not right in the organization, i have been trying desperatly to help the organization that i helped to create, but every time i have tried i have been shot down. other individuals in the organization have contacted me saying that they want to try and do something, but they are afraid to try anything. that is where i am at right now, i tried to help make a change, have individuals follow the constitution, and yet, the org as a whole is not. i have a hard time turning my back when something is wrong, i don't know if it is because i care too much, or it is sheer stupidity...

Is this an NPC organization? If it is, contact your (inter)national office and talk to someone involved with membership relations. Make sure you write down exactly what happened in very explicit terms with no beating around the bush. Don't accuse anyone of wrong doing, just explain the events and then ASK if the appropriate actions were performed. It is NEVER insubordination to clarify your rights.
