Recurring Dreams
Does anyone here have dreams that recur for several years?
For about 20 years, I've frequently had this dream that our family goes to Disney and we really want to go to the Haunted Mansion but can't seem to find it. It's making me crazy! I don't know why I have it, it's not even my favorite ride!
I used to have another recurring dream for years after my grandmother died--that my mother and I were hunting around her house for her and couldn't find her, but it was kinda obvious why I was having that. Finally, I dreamed that we found her and told her she was dead and the dreams stopped.
I can't figure it out.

In my recurring dream, I show up to take a test in class and I have never attended the class or done any homework (I have been out of college for 24 years). The other recurring dreams that I have, I'm late for something and can't move my legs to get there.
I think I have both of these because I am anal about being on time and being prepared. These have been going on for about 20 years

Mine have stopped but after 9-11 I kept having plane crash dreams. I was in diffferent locations everytime, but it was always a plane- full of terrorists- crashing near me. Sometimes the terrorists ran out of the plane and tried to get me.
Another one I used to have took place in my old house that I grew up in. I'd be in the kitchen and I could hear someone calling my name from my bedroom but no one was there.

I used to have one very much like that. All of the above and I hadn't even bought the book...and it was the night before the final.
Maybe it's an Ohio thing.

I had recurring tornado dreams from childhood up until I left my first husband. In the dream, a tornado would come and I would go to the basement but the rest of my family would stand outside to watch it. Everything would be destroyed, my family would be gone, but I would survive and be all alone. After I left my first husband, I had the beginning of the dream but that time, the tornado missed our house and everything was fine. I haven't had a tornado dream since. My therapist and I agreed it had something to do with feeling that others were always controlling everything around me (first my dad, then my husband) but once I broke that pattern and I was in control of my own life, things were fine.
Lately, I've been having a recurring dream that I'm dating this really awesome man. He has been in several dreams now. Now I just have to meet him and things will be good
I have also had the dreams where I'm trying to run away but can't move or show up for an exam that I'm not prepared for. I think I get those when I'm feeling overwhelmed by things in reality.

I have this one all the time. I also have one where I've been skipping a class for weeks (not sure why) and I have to come in to take a midterm or final and I'm completely unprepared. The weirdest part is that the school I'm at in my dream is my HS and the classroom is my senior year Trigonometry class (btw, that class was the bane of my existence). I think the first dream means what you said - I'm worried about being unprepared. The other dream means that I feel like I haven't been getting something done for a while and that I'll eventually have to do it but won't be prepared for it.

I've had that dream!
I also have a reoccurring dream that I am going to Chicago. Only it doesn't exactly look like Chicago. But I have had the dream so many times that I now know my way around and go different places (if that makes sense).

I have the class one ALL the time. In the dream, I go to class, just to find out I had forgotten to attend all semester and didn't do any of the work. I always freak out about the damage it will do to my GPA. Nevermind that I'm nearly 4 years out of college.... I think I have it because I'm in the grad school application process and freaking out about minute details.

I have had a dream where they discover I didn't actually graduate high school - thus putting my college work at risk. Weird, I know - I DID hate high school . . .

Ugggg I have that one too. Something like that did happen to me. I forgot I was taking English Lit my soph year. It was a night class and had been cancelled many times due to icy weather. (The Prof was handicapped. I signed up for his class because of his background and I did want to hear what he had to say etc.) I ended up with an "A" in the class and still thank the Man upstairs for an open book essay final. I really think that someone is looking out for me at times. (I have carried as many as 22 or 23 hrs at a time...had to make extra A's to balance out a few C's.)
I also dream I revisit and re-enter houses where I have lived and get stressed that the new owners will realize that I'm there.
My favorite ones are the ones where I can jump straight into the air and fly. I wish I could make those happen every night.

I love those flying dreams, too! They only happen to me two or three times a year.
I remember my dreams almost every night. Sometimes it's just a lingering feeling, and sometimes it's quite vivid. Mr.Hoover never remembers his. Ever. How boring!
My most common reoccurring theme is being chased -- then I can't scream, or the whistle on my key chain won't work, or I can't get the door locked before it's pushed in. Or even weirder, when my legs feel like I'm running through water, I dive in and swim up the street.

I have dreams that I can flap my arms really fast and I can float up in the air and hover, but I really have to work at it, and it's a secret that I can do it, but I'm trying to get away from someone or something, and I'm so frustrated because I can't get away fast enough, or there is something blocking my way, like doors, or I float up to the ceiling, or get caught in tree branches if I'm outside. I don't have them very often, but a few times a year.

Last summer, I was on a medication that made me have the most bizaare dreams. It always involved tennis. In one, I was playing with Billie Jean King, and won. I absolutely love to play tennis, but suck at it.
It probably has something to do that for 2 years I haven't been able to play due to my rotator cuff injury, and I have been going crazy. Once I went off the meds, I quit having the dream. But, that was the same time I decided to have the surgery for my cuff.

I used to have one when I was little (like 8) til sometime during university that involved a
procession of vampires near a graveyard and me walking amongst them. The last few times I had it though it was on fast-forward. Weird.
I had other vivid dreams in childhood but I don't think they were recurring - I just think of them often (like, say, when I see asparagus).
