Recurring Dreams
Does anyone here have dreams that recur for several years?
For about 20 years, I've frequently had this dream that our family goes to Disney and we really want to go to the Haunted Mansion but can't seem to find it. It's making me crazy! I don't know why I have it, it's not even my favorite ride! I used to have another recurring dream for years after my grandmother died--that my mother and I were hunting around her house for her and couldn't find her, but it was kinda obvious why I was having that. Finally, I dreamed that we found her and told her she was dead  and the dreams stopped. I can't figure it out. |
In my recurring dream, I show up to take a test in class and I have never attended the class or done any homework (I have been out of college for 24 years). The other recurring dreams that I have, I'm late for something and can't move my legs to get there.
I think I have both of these because I am anal about being on time and being prepared. These have been going on for about 20 years |
Mine have stopped but after 9-11 I kept having plane crash dreams. I was in diffferent locations everytime, but it was always a plane- full of terrorists- crashing near me. Sometimes the terrorists ran out of the plane and tried to get me.
Another one I used to have took place in my old house that I grew up in. I'd be in the kitchen and I could hear someone calling my name from my bedroom but no one was there. |

Maybe it's an Ohio thing. |
I had recurring tornado dreams from childhood up until I left my first husband. In the dream, a tornado would come and I would go to the basement but the rest of my family would stand outside to watch it. Everything would be destroyed, my family would be gone, but I would survive and be all alone. After I left my first husband, I had the beginning of the dream but that time, the tornado missed our house and everything was fine. I haven't had a tornado dream since. My therapist and I agreed it had something to do with feeling that others were always controlling everything around me (first my dad, then my husband) but once I broke that pattern and I was in control of my own life, things were fine.
Lately, I've been having a recurring dream that I'm dating this really awesome man. He has been in several dreams now. Now I just have to meet him and things will be good :) I have also had the dreams where I'm trying to run away but can't move or show up for an exam that I'm not prepared for. I think I get those when I'm feeling overwhelmed by things in reality. |
Last summer, I was on a medication that made me have the most bizaare dreams. It always involved tennis. In one, I was playing with Billie Jean King, and won. I absolutely love to play tennis, but suck at it.
It probably has something to do that for 2 years I haven't been able to play due to my rotator cuff injury, and I have been going crazy. Once I went off the meds, I quit having the dream. But, that was the same time I decided to have the surgery for my cuff. |
I used to have one when I was little (like 8) til sometime during university that involved a
procession of vampires near a graveyard and me walking amongst them. The last few times I had it though it was on fast-forward. Weird. I had other vivid dreams in childhood but I don't think they were recurring - I just think of them often (like, say, when I see asparagus). |
one time i had a recurring dream that my closet caught on fire and all i had to wear were sweatpants from my grandma!!!
but it stopped when rush week was over!!!;) |

My sister had a dream where she was in a house we lived in about 30 years ago. She said she was in the bathroom talking with our grandmother (who died during the time we lived in that house) when my parents dog showed up to see her. The dog is passed in the last few years. My sister said she didn't really "react" in her dream until a quite beloved cat that passed while we lived in that house showed up in her dream as well. She said she freaked in the dream because she realized that all those with her were DEAD! That must mean she was DEAD! She said she started shouting in her dream "I have to call Pam. I have to call Pam! She will know what to do." and woke up shouting that. She called me the next day to tell me about the dream. We laughed about it a little. Three weeks later, she called me to tell me about her cancer. I was the first person she called. "I have to call Pam." was what her husband said was the first things out of her mouth after they got in the car from the hospital. Sometimes dreams prepare us for scary things too. |
At least once a month I have dreams where I'm falling. Except, right as I hit the ground I wake up. It's hard as hell to go back to sleep after one of those...

I also have a reoccurring dream that I am going to Chicago. Only it doesn't exactly look like Chicago. But I have had the dream so many times that I now know my way around and go different places (if that makes sense). |

I have had a dream where they discover I didn't actually graduate high school - thus putting my college work at risk. Weird, I know - I DID hate high school . . .

I also have dreams that I'm on a college campus, and I know I'm supposed to know where I am or where I'm going, but i'm lost, and I can't find anyone to ask for directions, and it's dark and raining and I can't yell for help, like it just comes out as a whisper. Yeah, try reading into that one, lol ;) |
