Is there anyone in Greek life from UA I could talk to?

either in a fraternity or sorority..

I'm attending UA in the fall and had several questions about the Greek life there.

i was wondering how the sororities were meaning are the girls in it generally snooty? are there morals not high?

i understand each one is different but IN GENERAL do a lot of the girls hook up with the guys in fraternities?

i am probably going to join a sorority and i'm sure i'll find one that fits me but i was wondering IN GENERAL...

If you really do want to join a sorority, it would behoove you to delete that last post.

I second that one. The typing alone is terrible and that's BEFORE you get to the content that is in essence insulting a lot of us on here.

Why would it be insulting a lot of us on here? Are a lot of us of low morals and accustomed to hooking up with frat guys?

Sure, she's repeating a stereotype, but she's asking if it's true not assuming that it's true.

Methinks you are always calibrated to be offended.

I agree though that asking on here, if she is ever identified in real life with the thread, hurts rather than helps.

Just curious, but as competitive as "UA" is, jelly, you're really going to need to do your homework. I don't know a single thing about Alabama's rush, but I would think now would be a good time to start getting your letters of recommendation in order. If you don't know about those, go to the recruitment forum and do a search.

I applaud you for wanting to get this information, just don't be surprised when you ask a group of people whether it's true that they're 'snooty' that they might be a little offended.

It wouldn't hurt you to go through recruitment, you'd learn a lot even if you didn't get a bid. Really though, you need to contact your school's greek life office. They'll give you all of the information you need.

For that, here's the link to UA's Sorority Recruitment page. It looks like most of those questions are answered there for you.

http://bama.ua.edu/~greeklif/SororityRecruitment.html

Best of luck. If you do go through with Recruitment, keep us posted.

Jelly, in general sorority members are college students, so sororities represent a cross-section of the women you will find on a college campus. They come from different backgrounds, cultures, races, interests, majors and hometowns.

Sororities place high expecations on their members to maintain high grades and be well-rounded, so members are encouraged not only to be involved with sorority activities, but non-sorority-related organizations as well.

Sororities also place an emphasis on community service and each organization has a pet charity that they support, in addition to assiting the other organizations with the support of their own philanthropic projects.

There are social events with the fraternities and sororities throughout the year. Since they mix frequently, some people end up dating or hooking up, but the dating pool is wide open to the entire campus and many girls who have boyfriends range from having fraternity boyfriends to boyfriends who are not in a fraternity and it isn't something you are judged on or expected of. There are date parties where you can bring a date and he does not have be a fraternity member-- it could be anyone you like or want to invite.

I'm sure you will meet some snooty people in college this year; in general women join sororities because they want to make friends... I don't think being snooty fits this ideal, but I can't imagine going into a group of people and liking everyone. So you may run into a few people you don't like. And others you love.

I hope this answers your question. Check out the Recruitment/Rush Forum for other advice.
