What would you bring with you
I found out today that I will be heading out of the country for about 15 months...and it made me think...what is the one thing that I can not live with out that I can realistically bring with me....
So if it was you what would you realistically bring...
I'm thinking good shampoo conditioner and smell good lotion

I would love to bring my friends or family or my flat screen TV but that won't fit in the bags the army gives me...I get to wear a uniform for 14 months so no fun clothes or shoes...but I do get my laptop and IPOD....so what comfort item would you bring

Sir,
My suggestion would be IPOD, Laptop or portiable DVD player, Camera, DVDs, game system, bring extra tshirts and and socks. I have not been there yet. But my unit has a Warno for next year. I have been told those are things that you would want to bring with you. I have been told that you can buy tvs and that when you get over there from out going units. GOOD LUCK to you and be safe.

When I first read this, I would confused as to whether you were going out TO the country (i.e. destined for "farm-like" areas) or out OF the country (i.e. exiting the USA).

Is deoderant allowed? I'm in a group that sends items to Iraq & Afghanistan, and deoderant is on the "don't send" list.
I'd take lots of phone cards that are good for overseas.

ooooh...good toothpaste and toothbrushes. I just feel better with freshly brushed teeth (but that's just me).

When I was in Iraq (03-04) the things we wanted most were nice shampoo, DVD's and games for our game systems. You can get the TV's there - the unit you replace will probabaly be trying to sell some off. Take some good books since it's a really long flight. Dry eyes solution since everyone got dry eyes. A camera is a definate. The photo's I took are really cool. AAFES is there but they are limited in their selections. Take some power cords, there are never enough.
I'll think about it, there is probably a lot more you will appreciate.
