What to wear to a holiday party

Okay, my boyfriend is like superkid among the university administration and as such he has been invited to the University Chancellor's holiday party. This means I get to go as well and talk to people I don't know for 2 hours

I have no idea what to wear, I don't know what would be appropriate dress. The wording on the invitation is as follows:

Town/Gown Holiday Buffet 6:30-8:30pm.

SO bought a suit to wear. What do I wear? And while we're at it, let's see pictures and suggestions of dresses I cannot hope to afford ever because pretty dress shopping on the internet is awesome!

Buffet doesn't sound to fancy, but it's an evening event, wear a nice fall dress. Did you ask your boyfriend?

What time are your boyfriend's work hours? Since it starts at 6:30, I have a feeling that a lot of people will be going there straight from work. I would wear something nice, but conservative, and not overly dressy. For my company Holiday party, I will most likely be wearing this skirt

and I'm not sure of what top yet.

It's 6:30pm on a Saturday. He has the unusual honour of being one of five students invited to come and purely on his on awesomeness. The others are like the president of the SGA and the head of the student alumni association. Anyway, minus the bragging...
I still have no clue how dressy I need to be.

If he is wearing a suit....I would wear a nice, long dress. Just because it says buffet doesn't mean it can't ge semi-formal.

that's exactly what I thought...I have an awesome Ralph Lauren long dress in a paisleyish print that would be perfect and is holiday-like without being CHRISTMAS. If I could send it over to you and get it there in time I would

I like this one in green:

http://www.jcrew.com/catalog/product...atId=cat120158

this one in red:

http://www.jcrew.com/catalog/product...atId=cat120160

or this one in coal

http://www.jcrew.com/catalog/product...atId=cat120160

They're nice enough that you won't look underdressed, but not so nice that you'll look like you're going to your Senior Prom if everyone else is in suits or plain skirts/tops.

I am too lazy to do anything more than post the links. Sorry

Good lord - I don't want to have to break the news to him - why would you do this to me?

Thumbs up tips for holiday fashion

Okay so you can't figure out what to wear right? trust me I been there and sometimes its difficult, but there is a solution to that. here are some tips that
will help you for your holiday fashion for the party.

tip1: try to find something in your closet; if not, go shopping.
tip2: look for something that is hot, stylin, and fun for the party.
tip3: get some accessories for yourself that goes good with the outfit (and even some cute shoes.)
tip4: if you don't have a purse to go with the outfit, buy a hot, stylin purse that says everything about you.

when you go to the party have fun, and show your hot new trends.

I hope these tips will help you. bye.

I have been to alot of parties and I know how you feel. I know it sucks not having anything to wear to a party. one of the things that I do is go shopping at the mall, then when I go to the party, I just show off my stuff.
