Question Possibly transferring, should I go through recruitment?

Hello,
The situation that I am in now is essentially this: I think that I want to transfer to another school at the end of this semester, but I am not sure. I am a freshman in my second semester right now. Recruitment at the school I'm at now is coming up and I'm not sure if I should go through with it or not. I definitely want to be in a sorority no matter what school I am at. There is a chance that if I join a sorority here, I may like the school enough to stay, but I can't be sure. If I rush a sorority, and decide that I still don't like the school, what are my options? If I leave the sorority before initiation, can I rush in the fall at my new school? HELP! I need an answer ASAP because recruitment is coming up!
Thank you!!

If you aren't sure--and we don't know you anyway--how can we know what you should do?

I'm not so much asking what I should do, but would I be able to rush at a different school in the fall if I rush this semester, but decide to drop my pledge before initiation? I don't want to know whether I should transfer, but whether or not it would be a smart idea to go through recruitment.

You can rush again only if you don't get initiated but if you drop where you are, you may have taken the spot of someone who probably wanted to rush there and stay.

If you don't initiate, you can rush at the other school. But don't take someone's place who may stay if you aren't sure you will. You can always go thru next year or COB in the fall if you end up staying.

How about making a decision on which college to attend based on your academic needs and the programs offered, rather than sorority life? You are in school for an education, not a social life.

Another thing to consider - if the two schools are very different - say if #1 is small private liberal arts college with 3000 people and #2 is a state flagship university with 30,000 people - the Greek experience at each school is also going to be very different, and where you might love being Greek at one school, you might be miserable at the other. Sorority life isn't a homogenous thing.

More info helps us to help you. Why are you thinking of transferring?

I'm definitely not basing my schools off of greek life, if that's how this seems. I am simply not happy at the school I'm at and I am paying A LOT of money. This school is very expensive as compared to schools where I could get just as good of an education and most likely be happier. I really just don't feel like I fit in at this school for various reasons. I was thinking sorority life may change that, but my decision to stay or go is most definitely not based fully on greek life.

If your current school is that expensive, whether you rushed and got a bid might be a moot point because you might not be able to afford it. You won't enjoy Greek life if the expense of school is stressing you out.

You sound unhappy and sometimes sorority life can make things better if you're like 35% unhappy, but it seems like you're more at 85% and a sorority won't fix that. Just wait until you transfer to rush.
