Resume Help

Should I include church things?? I've done a lot of volunteer things/mission trips but I also know you aren't supposed to talk about religion...

I really doubt that anyone is going to give you specifics, for various reasons, one being that there are no specific answers. Recruitment isn't done in a vacuum, and there isn't a single formula that will guarantee you a bid.

The thing you need to work on is becoming the best version of yourself possible. Only *you* know what that means for you.

Use those other resumes as samples, not exact copies. If you don't feel like "sports" is the right phrase for you, find a different term for it. You want your resume to be clear, concise, thorough, and a good representation of who you are and what makes you awesome. Maybe you want to cluster all of your activities under one header instead of separating physical from mental or social pursuits.

Better to use google or bing to search, not the GC search tool, which admittedly sucks.

One more warning. You have shared a lot of information about yourself. I would beware of any more specific information about yourself here on GC. And maybe you could get ree-xi to edit her post with the qfp if you delete some details about yourself.

I never thought I would say this, but maybe you should hire a rush consultant. You seem to need more specific coaching than you can get through a website.

Here's one famous consulting firm:

Yes, and you are seeming as if you are unable to manage on your own. Are you the transfer from NY?

The Houston Alumnae Panhellenic has a generic social resume format for Recruitment:
http://www.houston-panhellenic.org/r...e_03032010.pdf
List your college grades/activities/achievements first, then High School.

For the women I write recommendations for, I ask them to add a photo, then save the final draft in a pdf (so no one else can edit it).
You can email your "Recruitment Resume" to the alumnae who are writing recommendations for you.

Last year, I saw a resume with a few "fun facts" as the last item.
Interesting things about you that are not honors/achievements.
(examples that I am totally making up)
* My 2nd cousin was a Bachelorette on season 11 of "The Bachelor".
* Met Miss America at a convenience store -- got an autograph & a selfie!
* As a 8th grader, won the middle school spelling bee & qualified for the state competition (of the National Spelling Bee).
You never know, something like that could be conversation starters/ice breakers during Recruitment!

Quoted for posterity - that way if you delete your original post, it's still on GC.

I wouldn't worry about "groupings" on your resume. Just use "Activities" and list them in over of length of time you've been doing them. And if you have church activities, list them that way - St Mary's Espicopal Youth Choir or whatever. If you held a position in the group - add it as St Mary's Episcopal Youth Choir - Soloist (2012-2013).

This isn't rocket science.

Include any information on your resume that helps paint a complete picture of who you are. I sure wouldn't leave out orchestra section leader just because it happened in high school. If you left that out, no one would have any idea that you are a musician, which is an important attribute.

Also, as someone who writes an awful lot of recs, I love when PNMs steer just a little away from the garden variety format and add a little personality. One PNM added a "fun fact" that she loves pink and purple and had a pretty pink and purple flourish design on the margin of her resume. It didn't detract from the information on the paper, and made her stand out in a very positive way. (The rest if her resume was very structured and easy to follow - she just added that simple artistic touch.)

My daughter was told to include all family with greek affiliations on her resume. Does she include Greek Honor Society memberships in that as well?

No. Only NPC groups or any local social sororities that may be on her campus and would therefore be relevant. We aren't interested in her relatives' honors. Only hers.

Thank you, that is what we thought but I wanted to be 100%.

I would include church activities on my resume, if it were me. No one is going to frown about you being a leader/volunteer at your church.

Agreed, especially if you are submitting to an Alumnae Panhellenic.

When I get rec packets from girls that I don't personally know I immediately start working the phones to find that mutual connection. Seeing a church membership saves me about 47 steps. So it is a win/win all around- you get a rec written by someone who knows you and I haven't spent all week trying to find that link.
