Benefits of Being Greek Affiliated?
Hi everyone! I'm going through formal rush in about a month and I was wondering what some of the benefits of being Greek affiliated are. I know that you can get a discount on car insurance and it's a great resume builder, but I'm curious about some of the other things I may not know of and haven't been able to find anything through research. I've also heard that when you travel you can contact the local chapter and possibly have a place to stay and sisters/brothers to show you around. Are there certain stores or restaurants that give discounts to Greeks? Park ticket or hotel discounts? What about non monetary benefits?

Knowing you share a bond of sisterhood with women across the nation and even abroad. I have met sisters in the workplace, on vacation, even in the hospital when I was having my youngest daughter. It is very special to know that you are a part of an organization with such a rich history.

Yes, Geico informed me that if I pledge with a sorority that I would receive further discounts off of my car insurance. And the thing about lodging is coming straight from an active Sig Delt and a DG alumnae.

These kinds of "benefits" are way, way down on the list of reasons to be Greek and are no different from the discounts and group rates that one can often get from college/university alumni associations, AAA, or any number of other groups. And they will vary from GLO to GLO. Some groups may have a deal with GEICO, and others may not.
But if you were simply to ask what the benefits of being a member of a fraternity or sorority are, I don't think discounts on car insurance, hotels or restaurants would occur to anyone here. If that's what you're looking for, try AAA -- it requires a lot less personal commitment.

You will spend more in dues and fees than you will save on discounts. Discounts are not a reason to join a GLO.

Oh link please.
And Greek houses aren't hotels, nor are our members concierges.

33, this quote is from our website:
"Vehicle InsuranceGEICO is now a licensed vendor for Alpha Delta Pi. Take advantage of your group affiliation! You may be eligible for a special discount on car insurance. Get a FREE rate quote today from GEICO. Click here for details. InsuranceAlpha Delta Pi's Insurance ..."
When I was insurance shopping, I called, told them about my greek affiliation, and they asked which sorority. With that, I assume that there are other GLOs involved, too.

I *think* the GLOs get a percentage with some of these partnerships. We've had credit card affiliations, magazine discounts, etc. They're always promoted as giving a savings to members, but the GLO gets a small share so you're helping the sorority.
