Transferring schools and greek life question

I'm going to omit the names of the Fraternity and schools in this post.

I am a initiated member of a fraternity at my current school but I am transferring to a new school at the beginning of the next school year. A chapter of my fraternity is at the school that I plan on transferring too, however they are completely different than the group of guys that got me to rush. I do not get along with this certain chapter.

I'm going to be going to the new school, that is set in stone, but I don't want to abandon greek life. Are my only two options to either become a GDI or continue on with my current fraternity even if I don't fit in or get along with any of the guys? Could I maybe defect from my current fraternity and re-rush one that is a better fit for me on this campus?

I know that brotherhood is supposed to be eternal and national but I joined a fraternity to have fun with my brothers which I can't really do with this group of guys.

Any help and info is appreciated guys, Thanks!

How do you know you don't get along with this other chapter? Road trips, hearsay, what? Try spending some DAY TO DAY time with them before you make an irrevocable decision. If even after that, you don't like them, yes, you can resign your membership and look into other fraternities. Be aware, however, that there are some groups who won't take someone who has been a member of another fraternity.

ETA: you may want to edit some of the info (by some I mean all) in your introductory post.

Your two main options -- if your fraternity is like most -- is to join the chapter at new school as an active collegiate or to become an alumnus member (not a GDI).

If you're talking about an NIC fraternity, the rules theoretically allow you to be initiated into a new fraternity if your current fraternity (HQ) confirms in writing to the new fraternity (HQ) that you are no longer a member of current fraternity. I say theoretically because some (many?) fraternities -- whether as a matter of national policy or chapter policy -- still will not consider you regardless of whether you have been released from your current fraternity. The fact that you were ever initiated into another fraternity would be a deal-breaker all by itself.

The last option is to go to new school and lie about your current fraternity. Aside from the total dishonor involved in that, imagine how your new brothers will feel when they find out (as they likely will sooner or later) that you lied to them to get a bid.

Beyond that, co-sign on what 33girl said.

Newsflash, but you can have fun with people without being in the same fraternity as them. Also even if you have met some Brothers from that chapter you don't get along with, chances are there are some you do. Friendships take time even if that wasn't the case.
