Cute, but foolish to carry that much cash anywhere outside of an armed truck.

Don't see the point
I just don't see the point in this. I once went to pay my tuition and the guy in front of me was paying in coins (How times have changed. You would need a forklift to pay tuition in change nowadays.). I REALLY did not appreciate having to come back later because I couldn't wait around while the poor woman who had nothing to do with (what then seemed) exorbitant tuition rates had to count out hundreds of dollars in change.

No one forced him to go to school out-of-state. This is one of the silliest things I've ever read.
Out-of-state student = out-of-state tuition, unless your state is part of a Common Market or consortium that allows students to go to school in another state at in-state costs. It's as simple as that.

Congratulations Crescent&pearls, but you are more the exception than the rule. The ills of Ca are well documented.

I read an article, while I was in college, about parents who charge their child's tuition on a rewards card and pay the balance off at once. That way, they get tuition paid, and a free flight/lots of LL Bean gear/what have you. That's actually pretty smart.

If credit cards aren't a temptation, it's a great thing to do.
I put EVERYthing on my AMEX Blue Cash card, including my grad school tuition, books, groceries, car insurance, medical fees, gas...literally anything that can be paid with a credit card. I even used the card to buy a car that I had the cash to pay (and just paid it off all at once). If my mortgage company would let me do it, I would put my house payment on there too.
My annual cycle ends in November and I almost broke $1,000 cash back last year!
