Thumbs up Rushing again, but at a different school.

Hello,

Not sure if you guys read my other thread. It ended up with a sad story. But a sorority that liked me invited me back to COR. I wasn't sure if I was transferring, but I ended up getting in and will attend a different school (it is my hometown). It also didn't happen to have the sorority that I was doing COR with. Those girls have been super supportive of me rushing at my new school.

This recruitment will be a little different. They only rush formal and in the spring. They have about twice as many chapters as the school where I first rushed. I will also be a junior, I know most sororities will cut off junior right away. I will at least be an extra semester since I am trying to pick up a minor.

Any advice to make my second time rushing a more positive experience is welcome

I also know a lot more girls in the sororities here to so I don't think I will be as overwhelmed as I was the first time.

You can pm me if you really want to know the school and what chapters we have.

You are going to have to give us more details...not necessarily the school but some sort of info about your new school and the Greek system.

Truthfully, as a junior, you are going to be in a tough spot, but again, that depends on the school.

And, yes, do answer FSUZeta's question...

I never initiated. My school will usually have it a week before the semester starts to.

Are you sure there is not fall recruitment? You should contact the Greek Life office to see if there are possible informal opportunities in the fall, since you may be eligible as a transfer student.

Back to my lane...

gusteau brings up a good point. some schools that hold formal recruitment in the spring will hold informal recruitment in the fall for non freshman. you should contact the panhellenic office and find out. if they do hold an informal recruitment in the fall and you are eligible, i would encourage you to sign up and give it a try.

I'm definitely sure. My school only does formal spring. I think only one sorority does COR.

Without knowing the school, I can give you some general advice:

Get recs if you can.

Be prepared for heavy cuts as a junior (you say you know that the school is competitive).

Keep an open mind to ALL chapters (esp. with the possibility of being cut heavy).

Get to know sorority members in settings other than class. Join clubs and other groups on campus. The other upperclassmen PNMs who are NOT transfer students have the benefit of already knowing women.

Since this is spring formal, I'd advise you to be mindful of your actions. Sorority women do tend to get wind of who will be rushing and will be paying attetion to PNMs during fall semester. If you party, keep a low profile and don't do anything to put yourself on the sororities' radar in a bad way. All it takes is one incident at a party or something to negatively impact your chances.

One of the sororities I'm interested in, I'm getting a recommendation from a friend of the family (I'm positive she was on her sororities leadership council) so I'm hoping that helps. I also know a few people in other sororities from another organization I'm currently invovled with. And my friend of the family said people I know who are in a sorority could put in a good word for me.

I checked in with informal and only one out of the 12 sororities does it. But I assume they do more like COB, since its only one.
