Are you disappointed with this summer's batch of movies?

I am asking because although you wouldn't know it dollar wise, this summer's movies so far has shaped up to be the worst set of movies in many years ( 2003 in my guestimation). And Transformers 2 had to be the worst offender: It had the worst reviews (public and professional) but raked in the most dough.

If you are disappointed, why? What would you do differently? Are them any movies that came out that yo still think you will purchase on DVD?

Some suggestions for Hollywood

1. Find a new IP. People hate seeing part 6 or 7 of anything because after awhile it gets tiring. Speaking of...

1a. There should be a rule that after number 3 of ANY movie, stop. Besides, Lord of the Rings and the original Star Wars trilogy ( and maybe James Bond , the Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street series depending on whose counting) there hasn't really been a BIG franchise that has been good from beginning to end.

2. Every toy and comic franchise does not need to be made into a live action movie. I cringe at the thought of G.I. Joe coming next month and there is a rumor that there will be a live action Johnny Quest coming soon? Do we really need that one? What's next the Smurfs??

3. If a series has fallen off, please don't try to give it a reboot or a reimagining. Although Star Trek was 'good', think of how many people you piss off by trying to 'reimagine' a 40 year old franchise.

4. Stop watering down good horror movies made abroad to 'appease' American audiences. Some of the best Asian thrillers are best when left alone. Movies like Ringku, The Eye and Juon were best left if you just subtitle it and show it as is. If poeople didn't get it...o well. For those of you that saw and inwardly loved Oldboy, cringe now, an Americanized one is supposed to be coming.

5. Sacha Cohen, Christian Bale and Will Ferrell must die.

That's it....take it from there.

O God no...the Smurfs may be really coming:

The Eye was very creepy. I saw the original subtitled.

I think most movies need to stop at part two. Like Shrek 3... why did the movie need three parts? It hardly needed two.

I can't wait until Neopets get a movie. INTENSE.

And I seem to be the only one out of my friends that strongly dislikes those three bolded fellow. I think they're incredibly stupid, their movies are extremely tasteless, and they should be dropped in NYC's sewer system and left there. I'm just waiting for the three of them to get together and make one giant shitfest of a movie that rakes in $6 billion somehow. sigh.

Find a new IP? Internet Provider? Or do you mean HP, as in Harry Potter? I'm not following...

I'm with you on Sacha Cohen. I've never appreciated his humor (if that's what it is) at all. Christian Bale... eh, I can tolerate him to a point. I have to disagree, though, about Will Ferrell. His contribution to SNL's Jeopardy skits is just way too good for me to wish him professional death (I'm assuming that's what you mean). While I'm not much of a fan of his movies (although I liked Stranger Than Fiction), I think he's great as Alex Trebek (especially when Darrell Hammond is playing Sean Connery).

Bruno was EXTREMELY overrated. I should've known it would be terrible when my best friend, who has the vulgar personality of a 15 year old boy, texted me saying it was really dirty. The homosexual references were WAY too over-the-top and I couldn't wait for the movie to be over. My boyfriend and I both thought Borat was much better.

I was somewhat disappointed. There was only about three movies I enjoyed this spring/summer.

Daemon, why are you complaining? I mean with all of those free movie passes you had.....it's not like you were spending any money.

hehe true but some I did, but either way it's really hard to see what a waste of what some of these movies could have been...

Wolverine and Transformers I did spend money on....

Star Trek i saw free and then saw it 2x after it was released...and that probably was the only summer movie I LIKED....skipped over Angels and Demons and still wanna see Night at the Museum.

and for the few hundred or thousands of us that get to see these movies, there are the millions behind us that pay for it...those are the ones I feel sorriest for. LOL

The only movies I can say I really liked were Pelham 123, Star Trek (of course) and Knowing. The rest were either really bad or weren't worth seeing at all.

Oh, I forgot about Public Enemies. That was really good.

I have only seen christian bale as batman, I think. That I can recall anyway.

I hope they don't screw G.I. Joe. However, I must point out that the G.I. Joe movie is not the same thing as G.I. Joe - The Movie.

I am really excited for the new Quentin Tarantino movie about the French Resistance. It's about time one was made about this. It will be epic.

I'm stoked.

Nothing worth seeing has come to a theater in about a year. I've only seen X-Men: Wolverine and Harry Potter recently. Wolverine was ok and Harry Potter never really picked up. I kept waiting for something to happen.

I'll see Angels and Demons on DVD, I guess.

The last movie I really saw that I liked was Adventureland.

I like a smart comedy or drama. I'm not one for a huge blockbluster. Blowing things up or special effects don't really impress me. Somebody just wasted a bunch of money and too much time on their computer. I'd rather see a great story line or witty conversation that took some actual talent to write, not just $ or a computer.

I saw the preview for G.I. Joe.

Why are they doing this? Such an unnecessary venture. It looked kind of Matrixy. And Marlon Wayans? Why?

Same reason why they did Transformers, Underdog, any comic book, and plans for the Smurfs, Hong Kong Phooey, Voltron and a few others....some brilliant mind thinks that it's a great idea to take all of these classics and turning into a live action/CGI suckfest.

It also goes to show how little originality is left in Hollywood when it comes to making something new.

And the Asian flicks haven't been any better this year either...nothing really new or eye catching has dropped yet unless you list Ong Bak II.
