a fraternity for veterans?

I was wondering if there was a college fraternity for veterans. With the war in Iraq coming to an end, the demand for service members will dwindle. A majority would probably use their GI Bill. I was wondering if such organizations already exist.

And even if they didn't exist, there are a at least a couple of organizations I can think of that have a strong military heritage that would welcome a veteran with open arms.

The theta chi and sigma nu fraternities were both founded at military universities, OX at Norwich and SN at Virginia Tech IIRC. I'm sure there are more orgs that would welcome veterans, but those two are the only social orgs I know with a military heritage.

No, Sigma Nu was founded at VMI. So were ATO and Kappa Sigma Kappa. I should know, my husband is a Sigma Nu. It's on their website and the one for VMI, research is your friend.

To be honest, I think such fraternities would be a wonderful thing for college veterans. I think I would have a hard time explaining to an 18 year-old what it was like to have to shove two fingers into the neck of my fatally wounded friend to try to stop the bleeding, having him die before my eyes, only to get shot myself 5 minutes later (in case you're wondering, yes, this really happened). I've never heard of a club on a college campus for just veterans. And guys my age can't relate to the WW2 generation. They were such a great generation. I'm sure talking to guys that were raised on x-box and internet porn wouldn;t be the highlite of their day. Just a thought. I was starting to ramble...

Any veteran can join the VFW or American Legion. They aren't limited to WWII vets, and I find it shocking that you seem to not realize that. If there are a lot of young veterans in your town, get them all to join and change up the complexion of the group. Someone has to run it when the old guys die!!

I hear this same bullshit about Masons/Shrine - "oh, I don't want to join, it's all old guys." Well mensa, if you and your young friends join and make an effort to get involved, IT WON'T BE. I'm sorry that there's no one begging you on bended knee to join and having an x-box/masturbate to internet porn night, but if that's what it takes to get you involved, the org is probably better off without you.

Sorry but this kind of self involved whininess chaps my hide. I'm pretty sure that when my dad joined the Legion, there were WWI vets still alive and active in the group, and he didn't whine about how he "couldn't relate" to them.

ok so check this out, all you fuckers that go to college and think that you are all legacy's and all this bullshit, listen up, it dont fuckin matter what you think you are. your in college, you partied at home growing up, maybe got in a little bit of trouble or you were sheltered and never done anything wrong in your life and the hardest thing you have had to deal with was learning how to wipe your own ass. you cant tell anything to that soldier, and you know why???....because he joined up, he did something, something that you wont even get off your fatass from the computer to go get a soda you have to ask your little pledges. you are the reason america is failing, no one wants to do work, you think that everyone is gonna give you everything..try working for a living, all you rich peices of shit that have money, you have no idea what its like to make your way up from nothing. and if your thinking to yourself, who the hell is this asshole?,, my name is chuck, and yes i am a combat vet from the 173rd airborne, we lost 44 guys in afghanistan last year. someshit like that happens in a hgih school or college... everyone flips shit and wears ribbons like it means something, maybe if you actually did something like kick that asian fuckers ass who killed those nice kids in virgina, maybe it wouldnt have happened, but you go about your meaningless lives, trying to make sense of the world you live in, but trust me. you can make up as many phallacies about yourself as you want but the fact of the matter is, you havent done shit for your country and talking to that veteran about how he is trying to single himself out.. shit.. women do the same thing, black people do the same thing, etc. etc. so next time you think about talking to a veteran, especially a young man who knows what freedom is..speak with respect and dignity to him, because unless you have experienced the type firefights and loss of life, you have no right to disrespect him.

Any fraternity that isn't comprised of douche nozzles will welcome a veteran, well, at least wouldn't hold that against him, if he were otherwise desirable. I mean by that, no one would say "eww, a veteran, they have Iraqi sand germs" or anything like that.

As far as if there are any fraternities that are only for veterans, I wouldn't know. Probably.

It will be interesting to see if veterans only fraternities spring up over the next few years.
