Yes, i exist and I'm Greek!
holy crap, you all are really riled up about my movie! i just found Greek Chat yesterday and posted a note in the AGD section encouraging them to go, and then today stumbled upon this thread...
first off, yes i am an Alpha Gam from JMU, graduated in 1988. They yanked the charter at my school two years after I graduated because we had low membership (hmm, sounds like the plot of a movie...) and i wrote the powers-that-be a pretty nasty letter after that, so i'm probably not their favorite alum. But since i don't have a sorority house to go back to when i visit my school, i think you can understand why i got angry.
my Myspace account says i'm 39 despite the fact that i'm 41 because i signed up when i was 39 and never changed it because i don't go on myspace that often as i'm old and it confuses me... i like Facebook better.
as for the poster in post #87 saying this movie is based on her school and chapter -- nothing could be further from the truth. I have no idea who you are, what school you go to and i've never heard of your chapter, so let's stop that rumor right now. It's silly.
as has been pointed out, Greek letters are not copyrighted, but sorority names are, which is why you never see a real sorority name in a movie. In Legally Blonde, Elle was in Delta Nu, which does not exist.
when i'm writing the script, yes, i use real Greek names because they are easier to keep track of than the fake ones and because i don't have time to research which ones are fake and which ones aren't -- that's the legal department's job. So who picked the names you see onscreen in The House Bunny? The Sony legal department. And they're all fake. Who picked the colors used on the houses? The production designer. It's not a conspiracy people. There are only so many combinations of Greek letters that are not real organizations.
i saw about a million posts complaining about the movie before it came out, but not as many afterwards, so i hope some of you enjoyed it. I loved Greek life, (and yes, I was a little sister at Alpha Chi Rho), and had several of my sorority sisters and a few AXPs out here to visit for my opening night party. I don't think this movie makes fun of Greeks in any way and neither do my Greek friends.
i hope the rest of you go see it and enjoy it and realize it's just a comedy!
Ps. I did not write the boob punching stuff, that was added by some guys.

Dear Ms. Lutz,
How did it make you feel when you found out the incomparable and exquisite Beverly D'Angelo would be cast in your movie?
Regards,
Senusret I

Beverly is very cool and very fun to talk to. I liked her a lot. Wish she was in the movie more. Her part got reduced in editing, unfortunately.

You must have really done something to piss them off because you don't appear in the Sister Search.

FYI, there is a Delta Nu Sorority -- a local at Dickinson College. http://users.dickinson.edu/~deltanu/
I haven't seen the movie yet, but it's on my list. I loved Legally Blonde so hopefully I'll feel the same way too.

i'm guessing local sorority names are not copyrighted as i'm sure the MGM legal department did a pretty thorough search. maybe it's only the Panhellenic sororities.
i don't know what Sister Search is, but if Alpha Gam doesn't want to claim me, that's their perogative. Doesn't make me love Alpha Gam sisters any less, but I never did like those snooty ladies at headquarters that came down and told our chapter what to do when they had zero idea about the dynamics of our campus. My favorite piece of ridiculous advice that they used to give: "Never wear earrings bigger than a quarter." Apparently, they thought that was slutty. Given that it was the eighties and giant earrings were in style, i thought their fashion advice was a bit questionable.

I'll be honest to say it really doesn't mean much to me if Karen is an Alpha Gam, Zeta whatever or a non-Greek.
I will say that I have done an AGD Sister Search which didn't find the sister I was looking for and I know for a fact they have always been in Good Standing. But then magically they reappear the next time I search.

I plan to eventually getting around to watching the movie sometime soon, actually with one of my sisters if we can ever coordinate a day. I really liked legally blonde, it is one of my favorite movies.
BTW I think it is cool that an AGD wrote the movies.

She said several times that she is from Occidental, where your writing partner went.

My writing partner was not in a sorority, nor did she pay attention to sororities. I'm sure someone at Occidental heard Kirsten went there, and thus, the urban legend was born.
Did you not see the post where i said my chapter's charter was yanked for low membership? Do you not think that's maybe where I got the idea??????
i'm amused by your conspiracy theories, but they're simply not true.

I meant your saying that you had no idea what school she went to (when she mentioned it in her posts several times) - it seemed as though you were saying you never heard of the school.
And yes, I saw the post - but considering the media attention that was given to the DZ chapter closure at DePauw a few years ago, one could assume you got your idea there as well.

Well, she may have initiated in 1985, but is she still a member? That may explain why there's no record of her, we're not claiming her as accomplished, and why everything says JMU class of 88, but no Alpha Gamma Delta PC '85 or 1985 initiate of the JMU chapter.
Just saying, if I was no longer a member I wouldn't be telling people I was if I couldn't back it up. If that makes me unsufferable and a sugar pops mean girl for wanting to be sure sisters who are members get credit, and those who aren't sisters stop claiming membership, so be it.
It is just suspect, and I guess I would find it less strange if it had been worded "I joined Alpha Gamma Delta at JMU, but I am no longer a member" which makes more sense than still purporting membership. Guess it is a mystery, just like Whitney on The Hills denying she is a sorority member when she has been seen in letters and photographed at parties in said letters.
