In the name of "promotion of greek unity" - I'm sick of hearing about that, that sounds suspiciously like a copout for "don't make fun of my sorority!"

Our problems as a greek system are far larger than a nickname for every group - and a nickname in fun does nothing more to symbolize a lack of unity than me calling my little brother "stumpy" shows my lack of love for him.

So in response to the original post - Yes, I do find myself using them, and I feel that they're always going to be around, and certainly have their place.
Ouch, hhahahaha quit playing those mind games with people

Sorry if it seemed like I jumped on a newbie, but I am just tired of people coming in with the same stereotypes and attitudes. Sure I could have toned it down a little, but I'm sorry, that's the way I feel. Sure, even my house has nicknames, but I prefer that people don't use them because they are degrading. And no I don't find myself using nicknames for other houses, that would be a matter of disrespectful. I prefer to represent myself and my organization as well as I possible can.

Maybe we don't all feel the same way you do? Maybe FHwku doesn't feel the same way you do?

Maybe some "dust off and get back up" while others might "sit in the dirt and get pissy."

What I'm trying to say is that the more anger you show towards things like this, the more someone might use it against you, maybe because they are mean like that, maybe because they think it's fun, maybe because they know it gets under your skin. Why give them that much, shrug it off and let them look like the idiot.

There's no helping the way you feel - my qualms are not with that at all, and kudos for your love for greek-dom etc.

I'm merely stating that intimating that I am a poor representative of my fraternity b/c I don't actively fight the propagation of nicknames seems a bit of a stretch, to me, and that's just the way I feel as well.

I could have toned down my response, but I am just tired of my fellow greeks coming in with the same stereotypes and attitudes towards public perception of greek life, which promotes stagnation rather than dynamism in the greek world.
