Frat and Sor Nicknames
Everyone knows degrading frat and sorority names. what are some from where you come from? how do you feel about 'em? do you ever catch yourself using them?
(i.e. Western KY. U:) FarmHouse (FH) "F***Heads" AGR: ARP's, gars AOPi: A Open Thigh ChiO: Chi Ho Phi Mu: Phi Moo SigK: Sigma Cattle AGD: Alpha Grabba Doojig/ Alpha Grabba Donut |
Although most of greekdom is aware that nicknames exist, I am pretty appalled that you would actually name them and put them up. If you don't like them, and they make you feel terrible, why not instead post ways to change perceptions and stop nicknames. Yes, I do notice that you put your own org on there, but that does not make it right. We are here to promote greek unity, not to slander one another.

I'll second that !!

Admittedly, we thought about getting cow print shorts that said Phi Moo, because we wanted to beat everyone else to the joke.

Good gosh, give the guy a break. He's new to the site and might have been trying to have a little bit of fun and/or see if other people could laugh at some of the stupid nicknames their orgs have been given. People will continue to use such nicknames if they see that they upset and pick at you. If you laugh it off, there is no more fun in the nickname, so it may soon be lost.
I thought it was a good break from the 'What's your favorite handbag, favorite beer, favorite drink, favorite grass, favorite fridge temperature" and on and on threads. Remember, it can always be worse... Blaine |

In the name of "promotion of greek unity" - I'm sick of hearing about that, that sounds suspiciously like a copout for "don't make fun of my sorority!" Our problems as a greek system are far larger than a nickname for every group - and a nickname in fun does nothing more to symbolize a lack of unity than me calling my little brother "stumpy" shows my lack of love for him. So in response to the original post - Yes, I do find myself using them, and I feel that they're always going to be around, and certainly have their place. |
Right, the names will be around forever no matter how much we try to get people to stop using them. Actually, I think some of the fraternity nicknames from when my dad was in school are kinda funny...but Sigmanure (Sigma Nu) and Alpha Grabba Hoe (AGR) are the only ones I can remember. No offence to the members, of course!
