Mizzou Recruitment with no Recs?
I have been asked how hard it would be to go through Mizzou rush with no recs. I know it is a competitive recruitment there, but some girls, specifically from small towns or out of state just flat out don't know any alumna. It would be great if I had some hard data to give to a few pnms.
p.s. I haven't been a rusheemom in a long time, but just too busy to change my name

I am not familiar with Mizzou recruitment but I am familiar with recruitment at a larger, southern school. If recruitment at Mizzou is even a little bit competitive, then recs would be a must, especially for girls from out of state. Recs are a way an unknown girl can make an entrance. You said that these girls do not know any alums to get recs from. Tell them to keep in mind that their recs to not have to be from Mizzou alums. The women just have to be alums of their sorority. Tell them to ask people at the places that they frequent often. Ex: church, civic organizations, old school teachers. Another great group to look into is parents coworkers. You will really be surprised by who is Greek.

I live in a small town of 6,000 people and if a girl who graduated from my high school came to me asking for recs, I'd be able to refer her to alumnae of 20 of the 26 NPCs (in town/grads from our high school). And I don't live in the South where Greek life is "do or die".
Tell her to ask everyone she knows. Teachers, school staff, friends of parents, friends of siblings, siblings of friends, women from a place of worship, coworkers, coaches, activity sponsors, anyone from your community. Often, when you find one sorority alumna, she will be able to refer you to others. If she puts in some effort, she will be able to find someone. Deadlines to get them from Alumnae Panhellenics may have already passed, but it may be good to check.
She's not absolutely dead without recs at Mizzou, but there is still time, and it's better late than never.
ETA: Many (but not all) NPCs do allow recs to be written by actives from another chapter.
ETA: If you know these women, can you write them a rec for your sorority? Do you know other alumnae that they might know / in their areas?

From my experience with rush at Mizzou, I have seen girls receive bids that I am quite sure were woefully unprepared in the rec department. (I was asked to write one for a young woman about a week before rush started, if that gives you any idea) HOWEVER, in my opinion, they are not pledging upper tier groups. There are several GLO's on campus (17?) so there seems to be a place for most.

There are 13, plus Tri Sigma is colonizing after formal recruitment.

Pretty much sums it up. Recs are basically going to help get you through the first/second round. So MU-Office-of-Greek-Life-technically speaking, they *aren't* necessary to receive bid, you'll just be cut really hard after the first round. But why not just get them and have options?
