I was just being curious. I have a friend who's daughter is going through at Bama and she only had 3 parties today. She was alittle worried. I originally thought it was Pref but realized it was still Skit parties. Thanks.

She may have had 5 yesterday so unless you know the total for the 2 days, you really can't tell. They can only attend 8 total this round, all over the 2 days.

No. If she receives an invitation to her last ranked house, she didn't receive invitations to her higher ranked houses.
She must attend all pref parties, but she doesn't have to list them all on her bid card. If she gets a bid to her last ranked house on her bid card that means her higher ranked house(s) filled quota before her name came up on their bid list. She was not in their top 60/75/100/whatever choices.
If she doesn't list all of her pref parties, she is not guaranteed placement. If she does list all of her pref parties, she may be placed in her third choice.
For the life of me, I cannot understand how PNMs can decide on the basis of one week that they hate a chapter so much that they cannot accept a bid to it. Seriously... you've seen these ladies for less than 10 hours total and you've decided that you dislike them so much that you'd rather not be Greek than be in their chapter? You've met maybe 10% of the chapter and you know for sure that you can't be friends with anyone in it? On the basis of the highly artificial structure of recruitment you know that you won't have any fun with a particular chapter?
Take the bid, kid. If you still have reservations you can decide not to initiate and drop then. At a competitive school, this may be the only chance you have. You don't know enough about any of the chapters to know for sure that you don't belong in one.
It's the difference between having a job interview and having a job. When you get to the job site, the place where you had the wonderful interview might turn out to be a horrible place to work and the place with the mediocre interview might turn out to be a great place to work. You don't know until you get the job (bid) and give it a try.

Honestly (and I mean it in the nicest way possible) suck it up. Every chapter is a good chapter. You only meet a small percentage of members during recruitment. Even if she doesn't have the (honor) of joining that chapter and receives a bid to another, that chapter and its members will be very much involved in her school life through greek activities.

^^^ I can see feeling that way on a campus where there are 20 women in a chapter. I can't see feeling that way if there are more than 50 or 60 women, let alone more than 200.

I also love how these women feel they are so much better than these chapters. One of the other threads had a mom who described her daughter as a wall flower, but god forbid her daughter end up in a chapter "below" her. Some of these people really have an inflated sense of self.

Today is Preference round at Alabama. Good luck to all the girls. I hope the rain holds off, and the girls hold up. It has been a very long week! Someone posted earlier they heard 200 were released/resigned early in the week. I heard 300 after open house. Hopefully all the remaining women will have parties to attend today and all who want a home will find one tomorrow.
I've been reading the Auburn and UK threads, and it has been a tough recruitment season so far in the SEC. I had a rec girl at UK resign before pref. because she didn't have her favorite. No one in her family is Greek, and she was totally unprepared, even though local alums offered to help. I hate it for her, and evidently she didn't think she needed help or advice. It didn't have to end like that for her, she had other choices. Keep that in mind PNMs and Moms.

What time do parties begin today and what time do/did they get their invitations? I'm following three girls - two had full schedules to skit parties but the third has either been completely dropped or only had one skit party due to grades. Her 9th grade GPA was low due to a learning disability - once it was diagnosed, her grades have been excellent. However, it knocked her overall GPA way down. Other than that, she is a beautiful & outstanding girl. I really hate it for her & her mom - I tried to make them understand that this was a very real possibility but they chose to go ahead - felt she had done nothing wrong and surely it would all work out. My heart is breaking for both of them.

Parties begin today about noon. Don't know when the PNMs get their list, but probably soon.
200 were gone as of last night; right now, about 240. That 300 figure after open house is is wrong. Now, plenty will quit once they get their pref party list. Plenty will not sign a bid card.
We'll see what happens over the next hours. Tough recruitment season? No, this is a normal recruitment in the SEC.
