Oh, I thought you were from Minnesota. My mistake.

Well, you guys asked so I gave you my opinion. I don't know how I would change the system, I'm not a lawyer, but I just have some strong opinions on rapists and murderers.

And to KSig RC, you've made some great points, but I wouldn't get involved with a woman in some freaky sex act. Maybe most men would, but I wouldn't. I wait for a long term relationship or marriage for that. For the men who get wrongly accused of rape, yes that is wrong, but they should think before they act in a sex situation like that.

A few months ago a guy cut up his wife and spread pieces of her body across a park. He did this. So now he's going to be represented by an attorney appointed by the State. According to the news he's able to afford an attorney, so why is the State appointing him one? Why should I have to pay for this psycho to be represented at all, for cutting up his wife into pieces? This is what I mean by cut and dry, black and white. No trial. Just throw him in prison and throw away the key. It's a waste of time.

And I'm not trying to argue with GeekyPenguin because she knows the law. She went to school for it, but I still have my opinion on rapists and murderers and we'll just have to agree to disagree.

As a martial artist, I know that if you do not practice regularly, you start to lose anything you've learnt. It makes the courses redundant, kind of like learning CPR but never having to use it.

Here is my patented rape defense course, one easy session, all you need to know:
1. Yell fire instead of rape.
2. Kick the guy as hard as you can in the balls. He's not going to rape you if he can't use it and he's definitely not coming after you when he's doubled over in excruciating pain.
3. If that's not enough, palm-heel to the nose. You will probably hurt yourself punching a guy and it takes awhile to teach a chick how to punch without breaking hand bones. Break his nose.
4. Run away.
5. Profit!!

Basically use your hardest joints and hit him in the most vulnerable areas. Also yell fire and run away. The end.
Out of curiosity, what martial art do you study? I was doing BJJ for a little while until I tore up my knee. I'm about to get back into it slowly.

It amazes me how many people forget this point.

Also, sort of on point; this fall in my criminal law course, we toured a maximum security prison in the area (most inmates doing life, all violent offenders), and talked to a number of the inmates. I would suggest such a trip to anyone, especially people going into law, and certainly people who are concerned that our criminal justice system is too soft on violent offenders.

Where'd you get the idea that I'm a socialist? I may come from the UK but...
My deal is...I don't want a child molester getting an expensive back surgery, one that he doesn't necessarily need, while he's in jail because he can't get it when he gets out. It pisses me off so much to see inmates abuse the system that way.
I don't believe in welfare queens riding the dime either. Get a damn job and don't just stick around in shitty jobs long enough to qualify for unemployment then quit. It makes me so angry to see people abuse the system, both inmates and perpetual welfare-ees.

I used to do taekwondo and hapkido. My tkd style was...interesting. We were a non-federated club that practiced ITF-style tkd circa 1983-85. The kicks put a lot of stress on the knees. Eventually I did a ton of digging and found out that the grandmaster of my old club was a pathological liar with a lot of bad history behind him and I left. But not without telling all my friends in the club the truth first. Yeah, I stirred up a ton of shit and no one knows it was me
I started Hapkido and loved it but I didn't have much time and I have this completely irrational fear of falling so I didn't get to work through that. Between the two, I'd drop tkd anyday (I was a blue belt when I left, 3 ranks from black) and pick HKD back up. I miss it. Unfortunately with my right knee in the condition it's in I think I'll never do martial arts again sadly.

A little while back I got in touch with a guy I grew up with, graduated in my class. He's a 2nd dan in Hapkido. I went over to his house one time and he showed me some standing wrist locks and stuff I was like owwww, go easy, lol. Break falling is fun, I think. I used to do spontaneous forward rolls over at people's apts. That's when you find out if you're doing it right, when you don't have the mats there.
