It doesn't bother me either. I'm old school; I prefer the terms "Rush" and "Pledge" instead of "Recruitment".

What I think people forget is that these are HUGE universities and once school starts, here comes the 80% of the population who could care less about recruitment and won't bat an eyelash at you getting cut (because they probably don't care).

This is another reason I hate the concept of before-school rush. No balance. There is NOTHING else going on; this is your whole world. (Why do you think all those people actually fall in love with the Bachelor/Bachelorette/Flavor Flav?)

In this context, yes, it bothers me because it's grammatically incorrect, not because of the word itself. It should "recently were pledged to sororities" instead. "Pledged" makes it sound like they're done with their program and initiation is tomorrow.
There is a girl from Alaska who got a bid to Alpha Phi! I think she gets the distance award.
And thanks again to LL for saying what a LOT of people were thinking.

No, I simply made sure that I talked with her for a period of time. I certainly couldn't vouch for her morals, family background, etc. I could only judge her on the few minutes that we talked. Actually this was the norm at two schools that I advised but was also a long time ago. I wasn't saying that the two situations were the same - just that I did sign recs for girls I didn't know. Now I clear the girls I don't know to the Advisory Board and they have to decide.

In 2008 one of the Greek Chat members put the names into an excel file; maybe Anchor Alum. I did a pie chart for the total and by sorority. There were just a little over half of the pledges from Alabama all of the others were from OOS. There were some sororities that had 2/3 of girls from out of state and other houses that 2/3 from in state. I can't figure out how to attach the pie chart; or I would share it here.

I guess it's just a lot easier for some people to try find someone or something else to blame when it doesn't work out than to face the real facts.
Thank you, Captain Obvious!
