Honest Expectations

Hello,
I'm a current sophomore student at a university in Illinois where there are 5,300 undergraduate students and it's estimated that 1,400 at least are involved in greeklife. I did not rush my freshman year because I needed to attend a family funeral the first weekend of rush. I was bummed but I tried to cover up my feelings saying "maybe it's just not for me" or something to that extent. This year, I still went in with the thought that it's just not for me and probably a day after Bid Day happened, I completely regretted it. I now know that it is something that I really do want to be a part of. I want the sisterhood and just an overall well rounded experience of my college years and I feel that this element of going greek is exactly what I'm missing and will regret if I do not at least rush. We do not have informal rush, I believe, at my university in the Spring. My question is, honest opinions too please, do I have a realistic chance of being asked to join a sorority if I rush next Fall at the beginning of my junior year? Do sororities even look at girls older than sophomores or transfer students? Thanks for any advice/opinions.

Not knowing your exact school, I will guess that the size of university will tend to make it less competitive. This said, there is no reason not to go through rush at the next available opportunity. Please chack with your Greek Life office and see if any chapters will be participating in COB throughout the semester or go through formal recruitment next year.

Ask your friends. You said in another thread you have 5 friends in a chapter. They'd probably be able to tell you how often juniors get bids at your campus.

Sorry, just to clarify, this was my twin sister's account. She goes to a different school in a different state. That previous post was from her and I knew she had an account on here so I just decided to use this one instead of starting a new one up.

Ok I'm not sure why I was considered to be a TROLL before. My intention was not to start this post for an aruguments sake or out of self ammusement. I truly did just want to know how common or uncommon it is for a junior to be asked back during recruitment.

Every campus is different. Without knowing your campus we can't tell you, and even if there are alumni of that campus here, things may have changed a great deal since they attended.

Call the Greek life office and ask them how often juniors get bids.

It's just that we've talked about this "I'm a junior, do I have a chance?" topic on several different threads in the past two weeks.

Like here.

And here.

And here.

And more questions like this were spread out through older threads.

I'm sick of answering this question.

Do you have friends in the greek system at your school? If you do, ask them. They would know best of all whether or not someone your age has been bid in recent history.

We, considering we don't even know anything about you, and most of us don't know anything about your school, do not have that answer for you.

She said herself that she's using another account so she didn't have to make her own - like me, she's new. (And the account she's using even only has 7 posts.). That's not trolling; I don't even think I would count it as a "mistake" - she just didn't know. No reason to get riled.
