Yes. GPAs are important to sororities (because we're all in college to learn).
Your GPA is not a bad one, but if PNMs where you go to school all have super stellar grades, a 3.4 starts to not look so impressive. This is particularly true of larger competitve recruitments. Involvement in school activities like the ones you describe help to balance it out though. A girl with a 3.4 who was involved at her HS is a bit more impressive than a girl with a 3.4 in HS who did absolutely nothing.
Also keep in mind the minimum GPA requirements of the sorority chapters at your school. A 3.4 HS GPA looks pretty good at a school where the required GPA's for incoming freshmen are like a 2.5. But if you're at a school where the sorority GPA requirements for incoming freshmen are like 3.0-3.2, a 3.4 is not considered great.
