Kanye West accused of lip synching

Kanye West is well-known for two things: his awesome rapping and his arrogance. The guy's music is so intensely good it (almost) justifies his God complex. Every time the rapper gets onstage at some awards show and accepts one statue by claiming he should have won another one, we usually have to agree. West has encouraged us to expect such a superhuman level of perfection from him, it was inevitable he would one day not be able to meet it.

That day was last Saturday, when West performed on Saturday Night Live. Dude did not sound good. He was more American Idol blooper reel than Grammy-winning polished performer. So what was the problem? Well, it had something to do with the Auto-Tune feature--you know the part of "Love Lockdown" where he sings about a system overload and losing control? Well, he was living it! And it was also pretty clear that when he got to the high notes, he pulled away from the mic and let an offstage singer handle the tough stuff. The bottom line is that we saw behind the curtain of Kanye West's seemingly impenetrable awesomeness. So was it satisfying to witness the world's most egocentric rapper all exposed on national television? No, no it was not. People were outraged. How dare he...sound so bad!

I despise Kanye. He will look for any reason to bitch and moan of why he is not rewarded more than he is. It sucks even more that I enjoy some of his music. I just pretend it's not him.

the performance was horrible b/c the song is horrible. there may have been a malfunction or whatever but it doesn't make up for the song sucking anyway.

As a big Kanye fan I got to ask...

WHO DOESN'T LIP SING ON SNL????

And this is a performance that happened almost two weeks ago, why the big deal about it? Oh yeah, because is on Yahoo's front page.

Same reason why people made a big deal out of the Ashlee Simpson thing - when a performer gives a sub-standard performance on something like SNL, it's going to be talked about.

There have probably been plenty of people who have lip synched on SNL and other live shows, because something can go wrong . Kanye and Ashlee have been the most obvious on that show.

Really, it's not a big deal. It happens more often then you think.

Why the big deal? Cause Kanye sucks ass, and it's good to see him knocked down a few pegs. He seriously needs to get over himself.

It happens...people do it all the time. It sucks if you paid good money for a show and they do it, but especially on TV, the producers want the song to sound like it does on the radio and so you get this BS happening.

Recently went to a Trans-Siberian Orchestra show with the family and it was pretty obvious that major parts of the songs were using pre-recorded music...the parts that were piped in even sounded better, and the light show elements were synched better.

Any one who has actually watched the footage can see very obviously that he did not lipsync. This is Kanye, not Ashlee. The real problem that a lot of people had was that they didn't like it because it was very different from previous performances. However, I totally "got" the concept of the performance and enjoyed it. I'm not a "fan" in the traditional sense, but his is the best concert I've ever attended.

Kanye can come across as very conceited. He has published a small book (I received one at his concert) and it addresses a lot of the reasons why he comes across that way. Once you are exposed to his mindset, it's much easier to "get" him.

Co-sign. Also reading his blog help. His mom also came out with a book about six months before she passed. That helped as well.

What is with people lip syncing on SNL??? Can't they ever just sing for real on that show???? Not that I would classify Kayne as "singing"....
