Hazing in Highschool OMG (lucky not Greeks)
Damn just read this article about hazing in high schools. Sodomizing is totally uncalled for. Totally wrong... I guess hazing could happen anywhere.

doing stuff like that would get them blackballed, well, no because blackballs are typically voted on, this wouldn't even be a question
no bid, and if none of the campus types are there for rush, you get thrown out of rush
pledging is one thing, and comes with challenges and hardships, but if this is what "hazing" means, then no...we don't do that

This sexual abuse goes beyond hazing to me. The perpetrators have a sickness and need help.
@ the photo of the kid with the injuries. Children doing this to each other really bothers me. I would flip a lid if my 14-16 yo child was the perpetrator or the victim.

What do you mean where? There is violence and sex everywhere we turn these days and these kids are seeing and experiencing way too much!

If one does a search for hazing, you will find just about as much if not more in places not relating to Greek life all over the country and world.

I don't think that the answer is simply what kids are seeing (I presume you mean on TV.) Sodomizing another child is beyond the violence and sex on TV. That takes a lack of respect for human life and dignity that is usually well represented in people of all ages...even children.

No I don't mean just on T.V. Look at our society right now. Look at what's going on. There certainly is a lack of respect for human life and dignity, among more than just a few crazies, as we have thought of them in the past. We are seeing things happening among children today that we have never seen before. I'm not surprised by this article though it is very very sad. Perhaps you don't watch/listen to the news and are privileged to live in a fantasy world.
Obviously these kids saw/heard something or one or more kids in the bunch may have been sexually abused. Kids don't just come up with these ideas. They are influenced by what they see and hear, not just on T.V./radio but in their homes and communities. We certainly can't work as a society to change things if some of us don't even know what's going on.

I completely agree.
I don't know whats worse- the fact that this happened, or the fact that it has come to the point where I'm not all that surprised.

I certainly don't live in a fantasy world...I've seen my share of tragically abused children. Unfortunately, many of those stories are burned in my memory forever. However, I do not believe that there is more child abuse and child sexual abuse today than there was in the past. We just hear about it more on the news. If the priest sex scandal in the Catholic church is any example, this type of abuse has been widespread for decades but carefully swept under the rug. Simply attributing this kind of behavior to the "society" we live in is underestimating the problem. Yes...I wonder where these kids get this idea, the same as I wonder how NYC policemen got the idea to sodomize Amadou Diallo all those years ago. Maybe these children were abused at some point, but there needs to be some accountability beyond "I did it because I saw it on tv or down the street."

You're one of those people that reads what they want to read and hears and sees what they want to hear and see. You totally missed my point and if you don't know that the violence in our society is getting worse and worse with each passing year, well then that's why things will stay exactly as they are. Because our society won't take accountability. At least some of us still value and understand that when it comes to creating the kind of culture, society, community, we want, it really does take a village.

If there were ever a reason as to why these kids did this or how they got the idea to commit such horrible crimes then i think that this is the first reason that might explain why. Also, when asked where are the coaches i would think that maybe their might be some abuse by the coaches. Of course this is just my first reaction and i feel nothing but compassion and sympothy for the victims and also know that an answer may never been found because there are lots of things on TV, the internet and others things that I never say when I was growing up 10 to 15 years ago.
But this is just my 2 cents.
