Greek Chat Lover's Spring Recruitment Story...Under Alias!

Hello y'all! I'm a new but regular user of Greek Chat, and I created this name to post my recuitment story. Because I love Animal House, the school I go to will now be Faber College, and the 12 sororities will have Animal House character names.

Our school has deferred recruitment, so I'll share my initial impressions after attending a Greek Expo in the fall.

Otter: My godmother had been an Otter at Faber, and she warned me that they were very different from what they were in the 1970's. They were a popular house on campus, though they did have a reputation for partying too much.

Pinto: The second house on campus, this house was known to have a great group of nice girls with no negative sterotypes. A frat boy friend of mine told me that they were "just a great group of chill girls" (though I shouldn't have listened to a frat boy!). They were known to be growing in popularity.

Hoover: This house had recolonized rather recently, and while it was known to have some very nice, pretty girls, it was still growing. Because it was faily new, some girls were skeptical, but it is generally known as a good house to be in.

Boon: Primarily made up of Jewish girls, this house had a bad reputation for hazing and partying. Still, it was a popular house, and many girls I knew wanted to be in Boon.

Greg Marmalard: Known for having tan, blonde girls, this was among the campuses most popular houses. The largest house on campus, these girls were known primarily for partying.

Doug Neidermayer: A popular house on campus, with a large amount of cool girls that I found rather quirky. Their pledge classes were always the most diverse (in personality, hometown, and, for NPC, race).

Katy: Known for cool girls with a quirky sense of style. I knew a ton of Katys and wanted to be in that house.

Dean Wormer: While Wormer was a popular house on campus, it didn't have the blonde, tan reputation that Otter and Marmalard did. Many girls wanted to be Dean Wormer, but I didn't know much about them.

Flounder: The oldest house on campus, Flounder had many wealthy, Jewish girls. They were known for being very selective.

Babs: This was the struggling house on campus that had not made quota in a few years. I didn't know any of the girls, I just had heard many rumors that the girls were socially awkward and the frats would not have parties with them. From what I had heard, I did not want to be in Babs.

Bluto: While not a widely known house on campus, Bluto had the highest GPA, and was a good house to be in. However, outside of sorority life and good grades, I didn't see any of the members involved visibly around campus.

Mandy Pepperidge: Known to be made up of mostly Jewish girls, this house had a reputation for not taking sophomores, and not taking Christian girls. Being a Jewish freshman, I had no worries, until I heard that they cover their girls with honey and feathers during pledging.

These are the houses on my campus, in alphabetical order (the code names do not correspond).

Alpha Chi Omega
Alpha Epsilon Phi
Alpha Phi
Alpha Xi Delta
Delta Delta Delta
Delta Gamma
Gamma Phi Beta
Kappa Alpha Theta
Kappa Kappa Gamma
Phi Sigma Sigma
Pi Beta Phi
Sigma Delta Tau

Where at Faber shall I go? In the next part of my story, I meet with my Rho Gamma...

There's a sorority that does this on our campus one of the initiated sisters actually told me they did it. But alas your school doesn't have this chapter.

Rho Gamma Meeting

Fast forward to the week that recruitment begins. Here is how we do it at Faber. On Friday night, you begin open house with four houses, and then visit the remaining eight on Saturday. Saturday night is ranking and processing, and on Sunday, there are up to 9 house visits. You wait an excruciating painful week, and then you go to up to six houses on Friday. Saturday is pref, with up to three houses. Sunday is Bid Day!

So the Wedesday before recruitment, one of my three Rho Gammas called. The first meeting was that thursday night in a classroom.

I met with my group Thursday night, and there were 47 girls in my group. (Its competitive at my school. Around 800 girls rushed this year.) Right away, I thought I figured out my Rho Gammas houses. I could tell one awas a Dean Wormer, another may have been a Niedermayer, and the third, who called me, was probably a Babs.

Let me introduce my supporting cast, so to speak. I've doctored the names.

Kirsti- She was in my rush group, and I had gone out to parties with her before. She was set on Otter or Dean Wormer.
Lani- Rushing as a sophomore, Lani wanted Dean Wormer, like her roommate. She became my buddy at breaks between parties.
Alexandra- Kirsti's roommate. I hadn't met her before rush, but there were rumors going around that she hated me because I had something with her current boyfriend before I met her. I was a little scared of her.
Amanda- Another girl in my rush group that I had known from a freshman orientation thing. She had said she would never rush, but then did, and was rather apprehensive about the process.
Lisa- An obnoxious girl in my rush group who knew she had to be in the top houses. She would constantly put down Babs and Hoover. I had liked Hoover at the expo, and wanted her to shut up.
Jamie- She was in my rush group and lived in the same building as me. Throughout rush, she would always try to talk me out of my top choices on the way home.

Next post....I begin open house!

Open Parties: Part 1

Lets fast forward to the first day of open house parties.

My group met and or Rho Gammas outlined our schedule. Today we will be visiting Otter, Hoover, Niedermaye, and Flounder! Before we went to parties though, we went to the Faber Student Center for what they called Recruitment Kick-Off. The Panhellenic Executive Board introduced themselves, and members from all 12 sororities were there, cheering loudly as each house showed their slideshow. This is where I got really nervous. There were about 800 girls there. I got really worried about being dropped completely.

We then began house visits.

Otter- I remember being terrified as I walked into the house. I knew the girls would be singing and shouting, but I had no idea it would be that loud and crazy. As we walked in, a girl put her hands on my shoulder and guided me...no...shoved me to her spot in the living room. Conversation was not awkward at all, but I didn't really feel like I connected with the first girl. It got better as I spoke to more girls, but I didn't feel that comfortable at Otter.

Hoover
- Hoover is a smaller house, so some girls were doubled up. I got doubled up with Amanda, and we spoke to three girls. The first girl spoke to us both, and she was really nice. The second girl, I remember, really only spoke to me. She and I got along really well, but I felt bad that she was ignoring Amanda. The third girl did the same thing! I liked the house a lot, but I felt so bad for Amanda.

Niedermayer- I loved this house. Three out of four conversations were great, but one was a little forced. I knew a few girls in this house, so I was happy when a few came over to say hello to me.

Flounder- This house had nice girls, but they weren't people I had that much in common with. I also knew, from a source that shouldn't had told me, that they were on social probabtion and couldn't have parties. I had some okay conversations, but knew that I would be dropping this house.

The next day, I'll be meeting with the other 8 sororities at Faber! Stay tuned!
