Dress code for NYE House Parties

I've only attended one NYE house party. The one I attended, people wore "everyday" clothes. I know you dress up pretty nice when you go out for NYE, but I'm not sure how to dress when you're just chilling at someone's apartment. I do know one person is wearing a dress, but she dresses up quite often, so I don't think I can go by that. Of course, I can just call some of my friends, but I'd rather not do that, yet.

What's your experience?
