Ricky Williams is back.........again....

Williams' 1 1/2 -year suspension ended Wednesday when he was reinstated by the NFL. The announcement came only hours after Cameron decided to give the quarterback job to rookie John Beck, who will make his NFL debut Sunday at Philadelphia.

The back-to-back developments might provide exactly the sort of shakeup a winless team needs. Cameron was mum regarding whether the winless Dolphins want Williams back, but linebacker Joey Porter said he would love to have the 2002 NFL rushing champion as a teammate "just because we're 0-9."

"I don't care who you got ... if you could run the ball like Ricky did," Porter said. "I mean, right now I'd do anything for a victory."

Williams has played in only 12 games since the start of the 2004 season. He was scheduled to fly to South Florida for a physical Thursday and meet with Cameron, said Williams' agent, Leigh Steinberg.

Cameron, still seeking his first win as an NFL head coach, said he talked with Williams by phone for "five or six minutes" Wednesday, but hadn't made a decision about activating him.

"I want to see where he is, and also let him know where we're headed, and we'll go from there," Cameron said.

Steinberg said the Dolphins were noncommittal with him previously regarding Williams. But following the reinstatement announcement, Steinberg was encouraged by a phone conversation with Matt Thomas, the team's general counsel-football administration.

"His indication was they were interested in Ricky," Steinberg said. "The spirit of the discussion was welcoming. It was a very similar discussion to what you would have regarding a draft choice or any returning player. The only contingent was whether they would have him practice Friday or Monday."

OK...I am trying to wrap my head around this. Roger Goddell disciplines Michael Vick, Tank Johnson, and Adam Johnson etc etc so far....but now this weedhead for the umpteenth time wants to come back? Even after he has PROVEN that he cannot stay away from weed off the feild? Roger are you smoking what Ricky is smoking? Trust me, Ricky will be in trouble again before the snows thaw in spring. If the NFL couldn't deal with him and the CFL didn't want him...I can't see with all the shake up that has been going on to clean up the NFL's image why the NFL is letting him come back....

Ummm...it's because it's the Dolphins. They would do anything including sell their souls to the devil if they thought it could make them win a game.

The NFL is first, and foremost a business. Roger Goodell, for all the NFL's pious bluster and propaganda, is about keeping 32 businesses in 32 American cities (while also growing international interest) thriving.

What's happening in Miami is bad for business, directly for Miami and indirectly for the other 31 businesses. 0-9 is worse than the miscreant behavior of Williams' past with the sticky wicky. Why else would Goodell make this call? As long as Ricky W. has talent, Miami will look the other way.

This is why the pro leagues can miss me with all their above-it-all bleating when an athlete goes foul.... if they can use him, they will, until the moment he is no longer useful. Then they'll discard him. That's why I have no issue with players signing for as much as their talent will allow them to sign for.

It's only a game to fans. For the teams and players, it's bidness.

sorry, didn't mean to "short" the Dolphins on their march to next year's #1 draft pick.
