i go to school at ucf and im a freshman. i always wanted to be involved in greek life in college so last year while i was still in highschool i decided to rush. This past week UCf held its formal recruitment and this is my story...
The first day was greek forum on tuesday night. There were hundreds of girls swarming all over the place. i wore a cute and comfy dress with heels. looking back i should have just worn jeans and flip flops. this day is super casual and all the women there are dissafiliated so theres really no point in getting too primped.
i met my rho gamma and my rho gamma group. my RG was so sweet. Through out the whole process she was so helpful. All the girls seamed anxious, excited and nervous. all the same things i was feeling. i felt like i new what to expect but at the same time completely confused. As we sat and talked to our Rho Gamma it was really funny. you could see alot of girls scoping the room and looking around. i guess at the time some people felt like it was a competition and the girls in the room were there adversaries. when in reality, the girls in the room were their future sisters and fellow greeks. At the time even i didnt realize that this isnt about getting into the sorority you wanted but about finding the place you could call home.
i went through rush with several friends. and the best advice i can give regarding that is to let each friend make their own decision. never try to influence someone. even if you have a tight-knit group of friends, chances are you are all very different and fit into different sororities. we all decided to try not to talk about rush so much when we were together. i mean, we talked about our outfits and how nervous we were. but that was it.
my school has 11 sororities but only 10 participated in formal recruitment. i chose to name them after fruits.
1. strawberry
2. grapes
3. rasberries
4. oranges
5. apples
6. bananas
7. blueberry
8. tangerines
9. peaches
10. plum
ill tell a little of my story each day and at the end ill let you know what i chose to do
