sparklysmile's UCF rush story

i go to school at ucf and im a freshman. i always wanted to be involved in greek life in college so last year while i was still in highschool i decided to rush. This past week UCf held its formal recruitment and this is my story...

The first day was greek forum on tuesday night. There were hundreds of girls swarming all over the place. i wore a cute and comfy dress with heels. looking back i should have just worn jeans and flip flops. this day is super casual and all the women there are dissafiliated so theres really no point in getting too primped.

i met my rho gamma and my rho gamma group. my RG was so sweet. Through out the whole process she was so helpful. All the girls seamed anxious, excited and nervous. all the same things i was feeling. i felt like i new what to expect but at the same time completely confused. As we sat and talked to our Rho Gamma it was really funny. you could see alot of girls scoping the room and looking around. i guess at the time some people felt like it was a competition and the girls in the room were there adversaries. when in reality, the girls in the room were their future sisters and fellow greeks. At the time even i didnt realize that this isnt about getting into the sorority you wanted but about finding the place you could call home.

i went through rush with several friends. and the best advice i can give regarding that is to let each friend make their own decision. never try to influence someone. even if you have a tight-knit group of friends, chances are you are all very different and fit into different sororities. we all decided to try not to talk about rush so much when we were together. i mean, we talked about our outfits and how nervous we were. but that was it.

my school has 11 sororities but only 10 participated in formal recruitment. i chose to name them after fruits.
1. strawberry
2. grapes
3. rasberries
4. oranges
5. apples
6. bananas
7. blueberry
8. tangerines
9. peaches
10. plum

ill tell a little of my story each day and at the end ill let you know what i chose to do :)

YAY! Go... um... blueberries! :)

Good luck and have fun. As many on here have said, stick it out til the end no matter what happens because it only takes one! May you have a fantastic recruitment and meet some wonderful women!

I wore a sundress with heels on that first day too. :) A couple of the girls who were already in UCF sororities planned my outfits for the week. (dirty rushing at its finest!)

Go Rasberries!

SparklySmile 08-22-2006 09:50 PM

so the first day of recruitment at UCF is called "UCF DAY". you visit all the houses and spend 25 minutes in each one. The chapters that dont have houses use the fraternity houses for rush.

The first day is suppose to be really casual. i wore dressy shorts that went up to my knee's and a trendy top. I also wore heals. It was alot of walking and i really should have brought flip-flops but the shoes i had went perfect with the outfit.

Going into recruitment i thought i knew exactly were i would fit in and exactly were i wanted to go. i knew girls from this chapter and had hung out with them alot. Looking back i realize that just because you can be friends with a few girls doesnt mean that you can be their sister.

so after the first day this was my feeling on the chapters..

1. strawberry- these girls had a beautiful house and i knew alot of girls in this chapter. Oddly tho, i felt like the girls i met this day were really fake. it was almost uncomfortable.

2. grapes- alot of nice girls. all really pretty. They seamed to be very involved. GPA seamed to be very important at this chapter and i didnt exactly have a stellar gpa in high school so...

3. rasberries- i loved this house. the girl i had was amazing. we had alot in common and it was one of the few houses that we didnt just "rush talk" but actually had a real conversation. oh and they were all drop dead gorgeous.

4. oranges- i liked this house alot. the girls i met were all so fun and sweet. The girls i met were kept me laughing. and also there was alot of just good old talking. i felt very comfortable.

5. apples- I liked these girls. but there was really nothing spectacular.

6. bananas-the rusher at this house was just so nervous. she was very sweet tho.

7. blueberry-i met a really nice girl here. but nothing out of the ordinary.

8. tangerines- sweet nice girls.

9. peaches-once again nice girls but nothing out of the ordinary.

10. plum- this was the toughest house to visit. the girl i had really couldnt hold a conversation and i ended up talking most of the time to the pnm that was also supposed to be rushed by this girl.

ok so thats the best that i can remember. lol. overall i enjoyed my first day. when i got home thou i was so extremmly tired. Me and the girls who were all going through rush just got pizza and then we all passed out. the first day is very tiring.

Oh and btw coffee filters are the best things ever invented!! they helped me ever so much during this day. they work far better than those oil sheets.

well that was my day 1. i wont be saying where i went until my last posting. all i can say is that i made the best decision of my life!
