If we were to adopt a national mascot...
... which animal would you like it to be?
Of course, I'm partial to the zebra we used at UF... and we probably all love our chapter's. But, try to step outside the box, and think about which one you would choose that isn't necessarily one you've used in the past?
Also.. do you think we should have a national mascot? Or do you like individual mascots?

I like the individual mascots, personally.
If we did vote for a national mascot (as opposed to our recognizable symbol, the crown), I'd want something that really stood for the ideals of the Fraternity, especially selfless service to the greater good. One animal that I think personifies that is the honeybee, who works tirelessly for the Queen and willingly sacrifices himself to protect the hive.

The chapter at LSU uses the bunny so I always associate ZTA with cute bunnies. A couple of years ago my sister gave me a porcelin rabbit covered in strawberries. I have to hide it whenever a particular friend, an LSU ZTA, comes over.

What's funny is that the strawberry only recently has become a big symbol in ZTA. When I was a pledge, it was never mentioned, nor was it in my pledge manual.

My chapter used the teddy bear as its mascot but our PP came down hard on us for that. I remember her saying "Crest, crown, strawberries! No bears, no bunnies!" We had no idea what she was talking about re: bunnies. I have collected a few rabbit things over the years and people always thought it was because of Zeta but I had already graduated college when I found out that bunnies were considered a Zeta thing.
My pet rabbit is gray and I would like to find a turquoise collar for him but they don't make them small enough.
Supposedly the reason bunnies are considered a Zeta thing is because 50+ years ago there was a song called "Cuddle Bunny" that was about a Zeta and her sweetheart. It was very popular on campuses. Also one of the Founders raised rabbits and was well-known in Virginia for that but I don't know if that had anything to do with it.

Personally, I would love to see a national mascot. I loved the zebra we used at UF for our local mascot, but I would love to see the teddy bear. Those who know me well know I'm crazy about teddy bears and have a huge collection!

Is "Cuddle Bunny" really 50 years old? We sang that back in the early 80's!

Our chapter used Bunnies, Crowns, stawberries and angels.
At UT we were the only crown users. axo had strawberries, pi phi had angels, AXD used teddy bears. We didn't use strawberries or angels as much because of the othere groups.
I think that it is one way that local groups can have something that is unique to them. I think the "national mascot" would only make a difference to college girls. If you had used zebra's for 20 years now you would not suddenly think of teddy bears with zeta.
