The benifits of being small...

I know some sorors brought up the topic of wishing we were bigger some time ago. I got this today from my e-group. Please read this. Trust me, being smaller has WONDERFUL advantages. [Not hatin' the others. It's all one luv... ]

"I have the "I just got back from the Boule Blues"

I miss my roomies taking my stuff! I miss seeing sorors everywhere! I miss being tired 'cause I had to go to yet another Sigma function! I miss the I
Team! I miss the vendors! Let's give a big hand to the vendors who came to be with us. And most of all--- I miss having my room cleaned everyday! j/k!
(not really)

I didn't get to see any of Miami. But I saw soooooo many Sorors that I can wait to see Miami when the Sorors aren't there! As you all may know, another sorority had it's biannual meeting the same time as ours. That organization had X-number plus in attendance. When I first heard that number I was a little sad especially since we had a little under X-number registered attendees. Then I had a few experiences.

In the Grand Meeting when I approached the mic, our Grand Basileus
greeted me as "Soror 'last name'" before I opened my mouth. Later that day I sat in the lobby chit chatting with PGB So-and-so about some innocuous topic. I saw my Dean walking down the hall with one of my Shippies and a Soror I'd made 29 years ago. I saw my old grad advisor. I ran into an Internet buddy-Soror whom I'd never seen, at the Step Show after party. I asked about the status or Soror CD, the Central Region Syntaktes 29 years ago, and receive current information. I got to give a pair of "gold glitter" shoes, that I will NEVER wear again, to an undergrad who thought they were "the BOMB" because we were chatting in the elevator. She checked on me for the rest of the Boule. I got to chit chat with PGB Green as we worked on a project. I meet and made friends with sorors from every Region.

After about the second day at Boule, I appreciated the fact that
there were not X-number of people there. Yes, I hope one day to have at least 20% of our total membership at our biannual meeting. But for now I know there is a benefit in being small; the development and maintenance of meaningful relationships.

For a Soror like myself who is neither rich, famous or holds any special office, it feels really good to belong to a sisterhood where people matter and the leaders aren't too important to share a little "down time" with us ordinary members.

There is much to be said for the women whom we call SISTER. We may
not always agree. We may from time to time have different politics.
But, at the end of the day we seem to know who we are and whose we are.

As I sat in the Philo pageant joking with the Past Grand Sister (a
name she cherishes), I felt the glow of genuine warmth and caring that would
not have been possible in the Super Dome or where ever you have to house
a billion people for a meeting.

As Dr. King said "I may not get there with you" but one day, we too
will have great numbers on the books and at meetings. By that time however, I sincerely hope that we maintain the personal contact and affection that we have today. "
