I can attest that Charlotte (generally) has pretty nice weather. I have been here for almost two years now and I have yet to see snow actually stick. (It has snowed, but not enough to even coat the ground). It's a pretty big city, but to me, it seems more spread out and less congested then other big cities. Traffic is always horrible uptown, and on the major interstates during afternoon rush. Out by the airport (near where I work) traffic isn't too bad on the major roads and light on the side-streets. If your going to be working at the airport, but prefer not to live in the actual city, you'll want to check out Fort Mill, SC or Rock Hill, SC for apartments/houses/condos. These areas are a quick commute, nice areas for the most part, and in SC, so they have cheaper gas and much lower taxes.
If you don't like snow and cold, you'll want to stay out of Chicago. It gets bitter cold there, and when I lived 2.5 hours south, we got our first snow in November and it stayed around until March. Plus, I'm not a big-city type person, so Chicago doesn't appeal at all to me. My only reason for going to Chicago ever, is to see musicals and fly out of Midway/OHare.
